This Week's Releases - 10/08/09

PALGN Feature | Things start to pick up.
After a few weeks (or more) of sitting back with nothing much to do, we can now look forward to the arrival of some promising new games. First off the blocks for all the cricket fans out there is Ashes Cricket 2009. Licensed by our very own Cricket Australia and the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board, for all you non-cricket followers), the title features all of the familiar players, gear and sporting locations, such as Lords. Players can swap the whites and baggy green for the computer controller when Ashes Cricket 2009 is released on Xbox 360 and PC this Thursday. PlayStation 3 owners, fear not, as the game can already be found sitting on the shelf of your favourite retailer.

Continuing the sporting theme, Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 10 arrives on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. Finally, the latest movie-to-videogame project, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra can be found on your platform of choice, except PC.

Thursday 13th August:

Ashes Cricket 2009 (Xbox 360, PC)
Carnival Games and Carnival Games Mini Golf Double Pack (Wii)
Coraline (PlayStation 2, Wii, Nintendo DS)
GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Nintendo DS)
Madden NFL 10 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii)
Mystery Stories (Nintendo DS)
Roary the Racing Car (Nintendo DS)

Coming next week: Wolfenstein (360, PS3, PC).

Release dates were correct at time of publishing but are subject to change.

Is there minimal hype surrounding Wolfenstein? or did I miss something.

dloiscute, I just don't think gamers take Wolfenstein seriously any more. With FPS titles like CoD, L4D, and Halo, the core market has developed a particular taste and style. Personally, I don't rate any of the later Wolfenstein offerings, so I completely understand the lack of hype.

what later wolfenstein offerings? the one in 2004? return to castle wolfenstein? was awesome. mp was awesome. wolf et? not a sp game, purely mp, and released freely. and yes i know its story.

surely ur not talking about wolf 3d? or wolf snes (which was awesome cause u had a flame thrower, and rocket launcher)? or wolf atari jaguar?

Sorry Trex, I should've been more specific. While I too thought Return to Castle Wolfenstein was great for MP, I found the SP lacking. My experience was that it become dull in the later portions of the game, and the undead zombie killing to be out of place. Looking at the screenshots of the new Wolf, I see they have progress further down the undead path. Ofcourse, I know people who enjoyed the later part of the SP, so each to their own!

In its defense it's not like zombies are restricted to the newer games. In Wolf 3D there were a crapload of allusions to Hitler's practice of the occult and the dark arts which very much paves the way for the future installments.

Spear of Destiny (sequel to Wolf3D) was full of zombie and Frankenstein Nazi soldiers. I quite liked RTCW single player, it was the equivalent of your average B action movie. I never got into its multiplayer or ET.

True, I just think that they've gone too far down that track, for me anyway. But hey, I'll be sceptical for now, and that way, if the game is good, I'll enjoy it even more !
