Rock Band gets Green Day

PALGN News | Evanescence and more Spinal Tap also on the way.
There's a stack of Rock Band news flying round the traps this week, starting with the signing of American pop-punk act Green Day who have inked a deal to appear exclusively in the Rock Band series of music games.

MTV's (parent company of Harmonix) President Van Toffler is quite stoked at the move, explaining: "Green Day not only rock hard, but are also epic storytellers. Their message and their music have been the voice and sound of this generation."

The Green Day barrage will start on July 7th with three tracks - "21 Guns," "Know Your Enemy" and "East Jesus Nowhere" being released as downloadable content. Obviously the excusivity of the deal will mean that there will be more in the pipeline for the trio with "additional Green Day songs and projects" to be announced for Rock Band at a later date."

In other Rock Band news, it looks like the DLC catalogue will expand with another dose of Spinal Tap, as well as the Rock Band debut of the haunting vocal stylings of Amy Lee, with Evanescence DLC also arriving next week. The tracklisting for these new DLC packs are as follows:

Spinal Tap Pack
  • Spinal Tap - Back from the Dead
  • Spinal Tap - Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare
  • Spinal Tap - Saucy Jack
  • Spinal Tap - Warmer Than Hell

Evanescence Pack
  • Evanescence - Bring Me to Life
  • Evanescence - Call Me When You're Sober
  • Evanescence - Weight of the World

As per usual, each track will be available individually for a small sum of 160 Microsoft Points (approximately AUD $2.45), with the four-track Spinal Tap bundle priced at 560 MS Points (approximately AUD $8.60) and the three-track Evanescence Pack available for 440 MS Points (approximately AUD $6.80).

This round of DLC will be making its way onto Xbox 360 on Tuesday, (June 16) with a PlayStation 3 release following on Thursday (June 18).

TBH I could probably pick three better tracks from 21st Century Breakdown (Last of the American Girls, Murder City and The Static Age, among others), but I guess that's more up to personal taste. What would be better is full album downloads. Why don't they do those? I'd be much happier to pay for those than 3 tracks.

As long as they release more from their Nimrod and Dookie albums, Green Day just went downhill after that.

There are some great songs and bands in Rock Band but we need more punk rock and alternative bands in there. Maybe some Bowling for Soup or Unwritten Law? How about Millencolin or Goldfinger?

I'll be on board once songs from Dookie start coming out.

Yeah, about time someone signed them up! I can't wait... I'd love to see a whole Green Day edition come out! (exportable songs of course too)

Probably never going to happen icon_sad.gif

Just import it from the UK, costs about the same or less as it would if it were available here.
