Capcom sales through the roof

PALGN News | Total Resident Evil sales top 40 million.
Capcom has been very generous with its sales data of late, probably due in no small part to the impressive sales of Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter 4, which have now sold 4 million and 2 million copies respectively. Resident Evil 5 is also closing the gap on Resident Evil 4, with the latter having sold 5.2 million copies.

The games giant has also released lifetime data for its most successful franchises (of which they have many). Of no real surprise is the inclusion of games like Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Mega Man, which have seen many iterations over the years (the Mega Man franchise alone has a whopping 124 titles!). However, the success of other franchises like Onimusha may be a surprise to some.

The full list is as follows, and the number in brackets is the number of titles released for that franchise:

Resident Evil: 40 million (56 titles)
Mega Man: 28 million (124)
Street Fighter: 27 million (62)
Devil May Cry: 10 million (11)
Monster Hunter 8.5 million (11)
Onimusha: 7.8 million (12)
Dino Crisis: 4.4 million (13)
Ghosts 'n' Goblins: 4.4 million (16)
Ace Attorney: 3.2 million (12)
Final Fight: 3.2 million (10)
Breath of Fire: 3 million (15)
Lost Planet: 2.7 million (2)
1942: 1.2 million (3)
Commando: 1.2 million (2)
Sengoku Basara: 1.2 million (10)

RE5 is a masterpiece, way better than 4. Not surprising at all for mine.

Are you mad? It's one of the worst games I've come across. Disjointed, clunky and all together uncomfortable. I'd prefer to play with razorblades in my underpants.

Awesome to see that Ghosts and Goblins has sold so well over the years. Nothing will compare to the original arcade though.

Is that all Capcom has done - apart from Resi Evil, Street Fighter and Devil May Cry I'm not really interested in any of their other titles. I hope they are not just living off sales of Street Fighter and Resident Evil.

Konami's, Sega's and Namco's lineup is far superior.

Ace Attorney has 12 titles in the series?

WOW, I thought there was only 3, with a 4th being released soon.

They must be counting platforms, regions or something else. I swear there aren't that many distinct RE or Megaman games.

They are definitely counting both platforms and regions in their totals.

it says Mega Man only has 124 titles, not the 128 quoted in the article.

It probbably helps that all those titles are known for being serious quality games.
