POTW results: real life and games

PALGN News | Just a game?
In last week's poll of the week we wanted to discuss the idea of whether real life current affairs should be portrayed in the gaming world. The catalyst for the question was of course the announcement of Konami's upcoming game set in Iraq, Six Days in Fallujah.

It seems the topic didn't quite excite the masses with only 148 votes being cast this week. Maybe we'll put that down to the Easter long weekend. However, overall it is fair to say that the question of whether sensitive real life current events should be reflected in our games was met with a strong, but conditional, 'yes' by voters.

A very tidy 50% (74 voters) said yes to the poll question, while a further 31.1% (46 voters) said that 'it really depends'. That left only 18.9% (28 voters) voting outrightly 'no'.

Whether Six Days marks the start of a new sub-genre of games remains to be seen, but the public's reception of the idea of such games is definitely interesting.

Wasn't there another game a few years ago on PS2 that was little known, that involved assasinating known terrorists (i think it was called something like "10 most wanted")? I'm not 100% sure that 6 days is the first. It's certainly the first with a decent profile, however.

America's 10 Most Wanted
Assuming the role of Lieutenant Jake Seaver - a member of a hand-picked elite anti-terrorist team - you are responsible, unsurprisingly, for hunting down and bringing to justice those on America's 10 most wanted list.
