Fallout: New Vegas announced

PALGN News | New RPG coming to PC, 360 and PS3.
Bethesda has taken the wraps off of a new entry into the illustrious Fallout series, currently dubbed New Vegas.

The announcement was just made at a press conference in London, where it was revealed that development duties would be handled by Obsidian, who previously worked on Knights of the Old Republic II. The game will be surfacing on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at some time in 2010.

As you would expect, Bethesda hasn't spilled many more beans at this point in time. We do know that New Vegas won't be a direct sequel to Fallout 3, though it will take part in the familiar universe. That, and it definitely will be an RPG.

More as it comes.

Bethesda are seriously pissing me off. First they butcher their very own franchise with Oblivion (and to a lesser extent, Morrowind) then they destroy the Fallout universe with a game that for some strange reason got incredible amounts of great reviews, despite in my eyes, being a complete mess, and an insult to carry the Fallout name.

Well, I suppose this can't turn out any worse then Fallout 3. At least there will be a few ex Black Isles staff to keep Bethesda in check.

I am now going to make love to my mint condition copy of Daggerfall.

Just quietly... KOTOR II already exists. It's been done. A few years ago now, actually.

Good to know that Bethesda still retain the ability to keep most of its content under wraps, though. Keeps the suspense up! Keen to see how New Vegas turns out, and whether it's some sort of sick hybrid between Rainbow Six and Fallout... reverse rappelling combat against hideous mutants, anyone?

^ Lol, yea whats the deal there, is that a typo or what?

Fallout was the most over-rated piece of crap in a long time.

The engine itself is old, sloppy and buggy and Bethesda are going to keep milking it.

Ugh, Obsidian. Don't bother buying it for the first month or two of its release then, they're pretty much the worst "we didn't have enough time/money to bug test" developer out there. They ALWAYS use that excuse, you'd think after working on so many high profile games they'd learn to budget icon_rolleyes.gif They haven't released a game in years that wasn't plagued by massive bugs, optimisation issues, or dodgy design... which is a real shame too, given that their games tend to be very interesting and creative... but they always bite off more than they can chew.

I used to think that till I was into approx 3 hours into the game -
Now that I have completed the first 2 quests, I am loving it ...

I actually think Obsidian will do a better job of it, considering that there are a number of staff there who worked on the Original two Fallout games!

Don't know if you played Fallout 3 on release, but I sure did. And it was very annoying to find out all the things in my home cupboard were no longer there, and a certain person that was involved with a quest mysteriously went missing.
But I still loved the game, you look past these quite major bugs because the game is so awesome.

Yeah I was hit with a game breaking bug 30 minutes into Fallout 3(GOAT Test) but then it was clear sailing all the way to finish and I adored every minute of it. But I've never really played the original games so I'm not at all precious about them.

Hmm, my previous post didn't go through. Regardless, what I said was that I can see this franchines being milked dry. There are so many old franchises that could be picked up, why must developers insist of running things into the ground so quickly?

Broken Steel

Broken Steel is the third downloadable content pack, and continues the story of Fallout 3 beyond the original ending. It does this by altering the ending of the game, according to Jeff Gardiner (lead producer of the DLC).[61] In the pack, the player joins the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and helps rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave once and for all. The pack will also raise the game's level cap from 20 to 30. Broken Steel will be released in April or May 2009 on Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live.

On that note, I'm waiting on all three DLC before I play Fallout 3. Not long to go now hopefully!

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't play Fallout 3 till this year.

I just couldn't finish Oblivion. It got caught in two game breaking glitches on two separate occasions both 15ish hours in.

oblivion combat > fallout combat. i hope this new one is more akin to the former. (and has a horse you can ride!)

Man i hate people like you; just because YOU hate something doesn't mean everyone else has to. I hate Hannah Montana but I understand there's a market for it. If you wanna act like every other Fallout "veteran" out there (even though you've probably never played the games, like 99% of those that complained about the first one) then go ahead and complain. I for one am gonna give the game a chance. Fallout 3 was my GoTY for 2008 - it wasnt perfect, but god damn it was fun and unique.

Man r u serious Bethesda is pissing u off? r u on something ? In my opinion Oblivion is one of the best games out of there I luv that game and fallout 3 is a great game yes it has some bugs but its got more pros than cons and im sad that there giving it to obsidian. But I now that all people don’t like the same thing but most people r normal and don’t run around being faģs just because they don’t like the game.

I don't know what to make of it really. I do believe though, using the outdated Oblivion engine is quite hopeless. Some of the bugs and problems I had playing the PC version literally made me stop playing it for a month (and aside from the ghouls).

I still need to play The Pitt... another day though.

I'm sorry, I didn't know I had forced others to share my opinions. Where are my manners? Is it really my fault I prefer to play the older generation of video games, and I hate to see great series go down the toilet? People hate certain games, I hate Fallout 3, deal with it.

Just what are you implying?

Who could hate a sex addict?

I'm with this guy. Oblivion was an overrated pile of **** infested junk, and Fallout 3 is no better. Bethesda are even making you pay to fix their **** up with the ending. icon_y1.gif

If only Obsidian weren't using that dated, rubbish engine Bethesda seem to love.
