How green is your console?

PALGN News | Greenpeace rates the big three.
Greenpeace has released its latest 'Guide to Greener Electronics' which rates the top seventeen electronics manufacturers based on their 'policies on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change' and gives them a score out of ten.

Of the three console manufacturers, Sony is number one (and is up two places overall) with a score of 5.5. Microsoft comes next with a score of 2.7 (a drop from November 2008 but an overall move up the 'ladder') while Nintendo remains dead last out of the three and overall, with a 'pitiful' score of 0.8.

For further detail and the overall rankings, check out Greenpeace's website. For your information, Nokia is the overall number one electronics company with a score of 7.5.

Had to laugh at this, the Government running a kids comp to tackle climate change, first prize an enviro-friendly Wii! Not to mention a couple of flights...

Just remember this is across all their products, CD/DVDs aren't recyclable and shipping consoles back and forth all the time won't giving Microsoft any favors. Sony also recently sold off a lot of their manufacturing facilities putting their score up icon_wink.gif

Wasn't this a crock last year becuase Nintendo refused to give some figures to greenpeace, so they just rated them the worst?

Sure was qbert.

Then again, i think Greenpeace is a crock of **** at the best of times.

You can't have an effective stop in global emissions without massively pushing forward nuclear power adoption, and banning all further production of petrol-powered cars.
And they don't want nuclear. **** morons.

Aftershock has it. Too expensive to build up other alternative energy sources to a level where they actually output enough power.

Don't forget, the wii uses the least energy of all consoles. The amount of CO2 saved from that would be more than what the PS3/360 will save due to being recycled.

Greenpeace lost the plot a while ago. They've been caught out already with their campaign against Apple (they had to admit that Apple wasn't the worst offender, just the highest profile target), this is just another Greenpeace beat-up.

Yes, I am an environmentally conscious person, but no, I will not support Greenpeace - neither will the one of the two people who start Greenpeace for that matter. They are as bad as PETA, double standards and misinformation, just your general FUD.

A console gathering dust in the cabinet will do that... icon_whistle.gif

But seriously though, my Wii used to be warm when 'off'. Very warm. A lot warmer than the 360 or PS3 get... and warmth means electricity being used.

Good old Greenpeace picking on companies again and again. First computer manufacturer and now this? what's next? recycling organisation?.

Less talk more action that will benefit everyone (even business, that's a challenge icon_razz.gif )

Edit - oops, Computer manufacturer is part of the article, o well. Still, less talk more action. Wow, looks like Apple improved, they were lower the last time I read about this (last year)

I planted my xbox 360 into my garden about 4 weeks ago for the hell of it to see what would sprout forth, i have to say all that has grown is alot of weeds and creeping ivy, henceforth i have to say that xbox 360 is an evil machine about the same standards of a cardboard box. Hence the world is fkd going on this specimen.
