Toby Gard returns to Tomb Raider

PALGN News | Lara Croft creator makes comeback after seven years away.
Toby Gard, the man behind Lara Croft (matron!), has returned to the franchise that made his name, by joining US development studio Crystal Dynamics to work as a senior designer on the next Tomb Raider title.

Gard left Core Design immediately after the launch of the critically-acclaimed first Tomb Raider game, and his return to the series he helped create comes some seven years after his original departure. In the intervening period, Gard oversaw the creation of long-delayed Xbox adventure title Galleon, developed by his own studio, Confounding Factors.

Now, industry whispers are suggesting that Confounding Factor is set to disband, rumours that have been fuelled heavily by Gard's departure to Crystal Dynamics, a developer probably best known for its work on the generally decent Soul Reaver series. "Toby will complement the existing talented team creating the next Tomb Raider title," gurgled a spokesperson for publisher and franchise owner Eidos said last night. "As the creator of the Lara Croft character, he brings a unique perspective to the development process."

I'd wish they'd just create another good game, not another AOD.

Meh, even if they did create a good Tomb Raider, I wouldn't buy it...

Lara lost it ages ago. How Toby will help beats me. I just purchased Angel of Darkness for PC and it is so dull it would give boredom boredom. It was also in a bargain bin, and the bin was pleading to me to release the game from its innards so I took pity on the little guy.
