POTW Results: Dawn of War vs. Dawn of War II

PALGN Feature | Which title reigns supreme?
This week we asked the Dawn of War connoisseurs amongst us which title they believed was the better between the original Dawn of War and the recently released Dawn of War II.

The votes have been calculated and out of the small sample we gathered, the results show that the shiny new chapter of the Warhammer universe reigns supreme with Dawn of War II tabulating 71 votes (81.61%). While it was outdone by the new kid on the block, the original Dawn of War still had some loyal fans with 16 votes (18.39%).

I would like to see the results of this a year from now when the hype wears down, and dow2 isn't as new and shiny

Meh? Who cares.

I don't see how those 16 people thought dow1 was better.
I'd really like to know why they think its better, god knows I cant think of a single thing I preferred in dow1. For the record I bought and played dow, winter assault, dark crusade and soulstorm the day they all launched and continued to play them up until dow2s release.

Me thinks those 16 people are just qqing because their ancient pcs cant run dow2 well enough or that they're preferred race didn't make the cut in the initial launch game. Best rts I've played since starcraft hands down.

The sooner people stop calling DoW2 (the single player at least) an RTS and acknowledge it's a tactical game like Jagged Alliance and X-com, the better...

There's RTS, then there's DoW II. is it that hard to think that perhaps people prefer traditional RTS' than hybrids?

Methinks the 71 people are just being blinded by "ooo shiny" because their silver spoon fed PC's can cure cancer and are stuck playing DoW II.

Seriously, 15 other people prefer DoW 1, we are not lesser beings because of it or simply whinging for the sake of it. Perhaps, just perhaps, we don't like it as much.

Sacrilege! Thou shalt not compare the almighty, lovingly crafted turn-based strategies to a manufactured, flavour-of-the-month, 'pop' RTS. (Also don't mention the later X-Com games)

Having said that, I spent most of yesterday playing DoW2 co-op with a mate on the Primarch difficulty. That makes for some fun and tense gaming. It's a pity GFWL's voice integration doesn't seem to work, but Skype fills the gap nicely.

I'm one of those people, and I have a Q9550 (OC to 3.4ghz), 4gb RAM and a 1GB GTX 285, and don't really have a preferred race. I wanted an RTS game and by having it called DOW2 I was expecting as much, but DOW 2 is just a real time squad management game instead and a severe let down icon_sad.gif.

I'll probably like the single player but from what I played of the multiplayer beta I certainly won't be playing DOW2 multiplayer again.

Agreed, though I'd wager that alot of them still also prefer the gameplay of DOW2.

Have to disagree with Skiller, I genuinely like traditional RTS games however really liked the change in DOWII. (No surprise I chose Techs so I could build turrets to defend my resources).
Have had great fun linking this up with a mate, yes it is oriented to squad based but it does have great RTS & RPG choice elements.
