This Week's Releases - 9/3/09

PALGN Feature | We can't wait for these zombies to arrive.
This week, one of the world's most famous videogame franchises returns with a bang. Resident Evil 5, the latest in the series also known as Biohazard, makes its next-gen debut on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Thursday. Chris Redfield, who first appeared in the original Resident Evil, returns to investigate the latest bioterrorism threat brewing in Africa. Players can anticipate an experience in the tradition of Resident Evil 4, with hordes of infected civilians and numerous bosses lying in wait. The fifth instalment places emphasis on cooperative gameplay, with players partnered with newcomer Sheva Alomar. The campaign may nonetheless be completed solo, or with a friend in co-op. Resident Evil 5 will retail as a standalone game, and limited edition with steel book case and making-of DVD. If you can't wait a few more days for the game, check out our impressions from eGames 2008 or try downloading the demo from Xbox LIVE or the PlayStation Network. Stay tuned for our review of Resident Evil 5 shortly.

Previously scheduled for release this week, Ubisoft has just sent word through that Tom Clancy's HAWX on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 flew into stores last week (as some readers will already know). Adding high-flying action to the Tom Clancy series of games, HAWX places you far above the ground with the latest in aeroplane technology. Like Resident Evil 5, the demo for the flight game is also available on Xbox LIVE and PSN. The PC version of HAWX is scheduled to arrive next week.

After a late delay last week, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is released on Nintendo DS. As a member of Ecclesia, an organisation sworn to defeat the evil forces of Dracula, players can adventure through 20 explorable areas as they complete side-quests and collect power-ups. Our in-depth review of Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia can be read here.

The PlayStation 2 earns a final hurrah, with Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 landing on store shelves. Wii owners can pick up Tenchu: Shadow Assassins and Sonic and the Black Night, which arrives earlier than expected. Finally, PC gamers can add World in Conflict: Soviet Assault and Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box to their collection.

IGN have given RE5 a 9. Plus every other smaller site are saying the same thing in their reviews. RE5 is great. Really glad since I pre-odered it and never played the demo.

Demos give away some plot devices.

Another expensive week for me.

I'll be picking up Persona 4 and a copies of Resident Evil 5. I haven't played the demo either, but Daddy has and it is all he has talked about of late.

YAY I can finally get my hands on Persona 4 icon_biggrin.gif and I still can't decide whether to buy Burnout Paradise on PC... I haven't got a next (or current nowadays I guess...) console thus I haven't brought it but I don't know whether to wait till I get a PS3/360 eventually or get it on PC... .... ... so hard to choose ;D

The gameplay of res 5 takes alot of effort to get into but once you're comfortable with it it is really fun. I just wish shiva was little smarter.

Also persona 4 coming out finally is good news.

I saw my local independent game store already selling copies of Resident Evil 5. I figure since they're so small scale, there aren't any super high and super anal district managers who would normally tear employees a new one for selling stuff before the official release date.

Well, it depends if it is street dated. You can sell before official release date without problems as long as it isn't street dated. Apparently, Resident Evil 5 is not. I do not have confirmation on that yet though.

In the States, RE5 is street dated for March 13th. I would have picked up the game when I saw it despite my Gamestop pre-order, but they didn't have the PS3 version handy.
