Australian sales charts, week ending 01/03/09

PALGN News | Killzone 2, Halo Wars or Wii Fit?
Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 each had a big release this week - RTS Halo Wars and the rather violent Killzone 2 - so, naturally, it was a tough fight for top spot. In the end though, it went to Halo Wars (not by much, either), forcing Killzone 2 to be content with second place. Wii Fit is lying in wait in third spot, seemingly ready to take back the top slot next week. Positions four and five are both held by Capcom's attempt to bring back fighting games and last week's number one, Street Fighter IV, with the PS3 incarnation still outselling the Xbox 360 game.

Mario Kart Wii fell again this week - but only one place to sixth spot. It's popularity knows no bounds, apparently. Slipping three slots is PC strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, but it's still managing to hang in there with the console heavyweights. The retro Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection made a rather nostalgic debut in eighth place on the PS3 and in tenth place for the 360, with Wii blaster House of the Dead: Overkill sandwiched between them in ninth spot.

Only three Wii games and not a single DS game in sight? How long will it last?

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

Very happy to see HotD: Overkill getting the attention it more than deserves.

Also not surprised to see Halo Wars beat Killzone 2.

Its been interesting to see that SFIV has been selling consistently better on PS3. Put it down to the controller?

Yer, was MUCH better than I'd been expecting, and the hand cannons it comes with are awesome icon_biggrin.gif

agreed, though i'm somewhat surprised by PS3 versions of SF4 and MegaDrive collection beating the X360 versions though.

That and the more older demographic, the ones likely to have played and love SF back in the arcades.

For all those that didnt know, even Halo Wars copies that were GIVEN away with 360's we're counted on this line-up, where as the PS3 Killzone 2 bundles WEREN'T. So really K2 should be in top stop, so for all those who said "i'm not surprised" - you're wrong. These charts dont represent the sales properly. See Kotaku.

I'm sure Sony will be counting Killzone 2 sales when the inevitable bundle rolls in.

Eh, who cares. Killzone 2 has still out-performed Halo Wars in practically every other nation (the US is the only one we don't know). But Halo Wars is still in the 2nd place every time. Don't dismiss the selling power of the Halo brand name.

im just glad to see a change in the charts. always good to see a mix of lot, and not dominated by just 1 brand.

heh all the top 10 DS games are made by Nintendo. Hopefully GTA Chinatown Wars will take out 1st for it when it releases soon.
