This Week's Releases - 23/2/09

PALGN Feature | A killer week.
This week, the Xbox and PlayStation showdown continues, with each console releasing its own gaming juggernaut. First up is one of the most hyped titles of the year, Killzone 2. The first-person shooter from developer Guerrilla places you in the boots of ISA special forces soldier Sev. As part of a planet-wide incursion into the enemy stronghold of Helghan, players must battle waves of bloodthirsty red-eyed troops. If you were wondering whether Killzone 2 is more than a visual tour de force, check out our review of the game. Killzone 2 on PlayStation 3 invades store shelves everywhere this Thursday. A PlayStation 3 console bundled with Killzone 2 is also available this week.

Microsoft has its own exclusive game on the table this week, Halo Wars. From Ensemble Studios, the developers behind Age of Empires, Halo Wars is a strategy title set 20 years before the events of Halo: Combat Evloved. The game allows you play as the United Nations Space Command in the single-player campaign, or Covenant or UNSC in multiplayer. Players can control squads of Spartan soldiers, space marines and tanks, just to name a new. Halo Wars is also released on Xbox 360 this Thursday, and will retail as a standard and Limited Edition.

50 Cent: Blood in the Sand and SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection are among the other titles released on Xbox 360 and PS3 this week. The final game to land on Microsoft’s console is Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, which can be found on Xbox LIVE from Wednesday (check out our preview from eGames 2008 here).

Wii gamers can outlast the zombie apocalypse from inside a shopping centre (filled with plenty of improved weapons) in Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. Finally, Patapon 2 breaks the software drought on PlayStation Portable, and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon on Nintendo DS reaches PAL shores.
