Australian sales charts, week ending 08/02/09

PALGN News | The Nintendo assimilation is complete.
Nintendo has taken its chart dominance to a whole new level this week. No longer content with merely having the top three games every week, Nintendo has locked up the entire all format top ten in a show of strength not seen since the glory days of the PS2.

The top two games flipped places this week, with Mario Kart Wii taking over from Wii Fit as the top-selling game in the country. Brain Training didn't budge from its third place, nor did the Guitar Hero World Tour super bundle shift from fourth. In an attempt to keep up with its older brother, More Brain Training jumped a whopping five spots to close the week in fifth place.

After a week break from the top ten, the Wii Play/Wii remote bundle is back in the charts, in an unusually low sixth place. The resurgent Wii tennis sim Top Spin 3 slipped a few places from last week, but is still hanging on in seventh position. Hitting the charts at nine is another flippin' DS training game, in the form of Maths Training. We bet all the kids can't wait to get their hands on that one. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is still continuing to sell, ending the week at nine, with DS newcomer Hasbro Family Game Night behind it at ten.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

Well, it had to happen eventually. Nintendo were always gonna come back strong after the Cube failure, never thought it would be quite this dominant, though.

To be fair, it's not like anything HUGE came out for PS3/360. Wait until Killzone 2 and Halo Wars are available over the next few weeks to see a shift in the charts icon_wink.gif

Yeah, the chart is clearly dominated by recently released Nintendo titles, such as that game came out in April last year, the game that came out in July last year and the game that came out in June 2006 (I had to check when that game came out and, seriously, thats absolutely ridiculous).

i reckon they'll appear for a week, and then the charts will return to this as everyone will buy them day one.

How do this work Nintendo loses the most to piracy in the world, which one of you idiots is filling their pockets. Seriously though, how do they sell so much with such easy piracy options avalible.

Nintendo dominating doesn't suprise me one bit. Looking at the sales sheets at work it's all wii and ds with a few PS3 & 360 thrown in but mostly were preorders for Street Fighter, Killzone 2 and Halo Wars etc.

Edit (28/2/2011): This post was stupid. It is now removed.

@Gnomey, Isn't it like Celine Dion getting the no.1 on the Aria charts? Most people who buy Nintendo are honest copyright following people. Clearly appealing to mainstream people, who actually pay for music on Intunes, are the best money maker.

360 is friggin easy to rip games for as well, don't tell me you don't that.
