Far Cry 2 gets Hardcore

PALGN News | Ubisoft adding a new difficulty level for hardened players.

Ubisoft has revealed plans to introduce a brand new hardcore difficulty mode into jungle shooter Fay Cry 2.

The news comes from a post on the Ubisoft forums by developer Atmon, in response to the various requests from fans of the game.

"Alot of questions have been raised on the forums about a hardcore mode feature. Today we are happy to confirm that you will be able to enjoy this new mode on all platforms with our next wave of patches," says the post. "The hardcore mode has been designed as an answer to a community request. When designing the multiplayer game our team wanted to provide a balanced experience for most gamers. However some players were seeking and expecting a more realistic experience."

Apparently, the new difficulty mode will be released on all platforms, along with re-balanced weapons (each now doing increased damage). In addition, players will be able to tweak spawning time, plus there will be a new multiplayer search feature to find games that are being played on hardcore difficulty.

Details of a release date for the patch haven't surfaced as of yet.

Is PALGN going to review Far Cry 2? The game was released in October 2008. You can probably pick it up in some bargain bins now

I think I'd have a seizure if I attempted to put this back into my console. This game sucked the life from me.

The best part of this game was finishing it and realising I'd never have to play, or drive anywhere again.

Have they managed to patch the problem with the save files on the Xbox360 version yet? In between all the driving and repetitive unimaginative missions I didn't mind the game.. but then after around 30 hours my save files became corrupted. I had been keeping multiples, but most of them got corrupted and the game just freezes when you try to load them. Happened to me at about 70% completion.

This is a known problem and I still haven't heard anything about it getting fixed. I would much prefer that to get patched than a hardcore difficulty setting, or for at least the developers to acknowledge the problem

It has left a very very sour taste in my mouth..

Pass for me too. Finishing it was a mammoth task in itself. I will be returning it for FEAR2. I will be happy to see this one return to the shop.

I read 'tweak spawning time' and got super excited, thinking it meant being able to control the spawning of those blasted guard posts. But then realized it was in relation to multi-player spawning. Sigh...
