Bad Company 2, Dead Space Wii announced

PALGN News | Mass Effect II also coming soon.
EA bigwig John Riccitiello has revealed the existence of a sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company during a quarterly results conference call, as well as the fact that survival horror game Dead Space will be making its way to the Nintendo Wii.

If that wasn't enough, he also mentioned that Mass Effect II - which has never been officially and completely announced - will see a release before the end of the company's financial year in April 2010. More interestingly, he suggested that the game would be released on 'multiple platforms', opening up the possibility that the game could grace the PS3.

Riccitiello bought up the existence of Dead Space Wii while discussing their future plans for Wii software.

"We are bringing core intellectual properties and franchise in categories we think have legs on the Wii platform. A good example of this is Dead Space," he detailed. "We are bringing a Wii title to market this year, and it is absolutely going to be the quality and fear factor that you've got on the PS3/Xbox 360 and PC this past year."

The sequel to Bad Company will once again be handled by DICE, who will make use of the same game engine from the original.

Also mentioned in the conference call was the fact that EA will be closing down 12 offices - and retrenching 11% of its workforce - thanks to a USD $641 million loss for the quarter. Ouch.

Dead Space Wii: Port or new title? When it comes to possible ports I am always a bit skeptical. Less skeptical if its Capcom given their track record (RE4, Okami) but still. If its a new game it may be one to look forward too.

As far as Mass Effect 2 goes? YEAH BABY YEAH!

Me too. Hopefully they introduce more strategy to the game in regards to the destructible environment.

I did find that too much of the story mode was focused on the destructible environment though.. such as 'Blow up that bridge'. Was it all that hard to just attack them normally?

Hopefully they make some improvements to the engine and make the destruction seem less scripted. It was a hell of a fun game, but it was dodgy when you aim a grenade/rocket on a wall, but it blows a hole a metre to the left or right. Also, what happened to the promise of being able to chip a small enough portion in the corner of a wall to use as cover and rest your sniper rifle on? Early previews were hyping such a feature, but the desructability was just too scripted. It was either a big explosion with big damage, or nothing at all. Also, I want to be able to go prone! And lastly, fix the spawning system. I understand that it was due to technical issues, but it was a pain in some situations where when you die, you have to trek a mile without a vehicle. Still, it was a very fun game and hopefully the humour will be retained, Haggard was hilarious.

Oh, and my other issue. There was no variety of buildings/houses. They all looked the same and were bare. Again, it may be due to technical issues and the fact that all destruction was scripted, but some more variety would go a long way.

^ yeah i was hoping for a bit more destructive variety and strategy too. look downing an entire building that was filled with the enemy, or taking a sniper rifle to a top floor then blowing out the stairs to cover your ass, or even just blowing holes in roofs and ceilings woulda been nice as well plowing through a building in a tank...
i would have been happy with respawning sets and props.
