Prince of Persia DLC coming next month

PALGN News | It's called Epilogue.
Ubisoft has revealed that it plans to release the first slice of Prince of Persia downloadable content, titled Epilogue, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the 26th of February.

The DLC will hopefully give fans of the game some closure, as it takes place immediately following the conclusion of the retail game. Players will have to escape from some sort of secret underground palace, with the relationship between the Prince and Elika becoming more complex throughout.

New abilities will also be available. The Prince will learn a new sprinting clash attack, allowing him to stun enemies rather quickly. Elika will come complete with an energise power, giving her the ability to rebuild things that might have been previously broken in order to open up new paths.

Some new skins will also be present, along with a newly re-skinned boss. According to Ubisoft, the DLC should take about three hours to play through.

As of yet, no price has been set.

We reviewed Prince of Persia earlier this month, and, to be honest, we were rather fond of it.

Sounds cool, really, but I am a little suspicious about these companies bringing DLC such as this and Operation Anchorage / Knothole Island. They all seem as if they could/should have been realistically included in the original game, especially in the case of PoP.

We pay say around $100 for these games give or take, then each time DLC lands, the price tag increases, for what I can see anyway as a few more hours fun.

A double edged sword, for me anyway, I want more out of these games but I hope in this instance the DLC is more substantial than a few gamerscore/trophy points and a couple of hours for over $10 aus.

I think that, perhaps, the idea of getting out DLC reasonably close to launch is in part an attempt to stymie the practice of trading in games a week or so after purchase. Value add and potential profit increase.

Eitherway, DLC like this is drawn into the contract with the publisher, so it's a case of having planned content during production rather than devs simply cutting out a section to later sell on to consumers.

I read take 2 having a whinge about trading games just before, even though the industry posted a record 22 billion dollar profit last year.

I don't think they lose much on traded games at all, trader goes onto buy another full price game, buyer was never going to buy that game at full price anyway, so no sale lost and one that may not have happened gained. But whinge away game companies and keep doing this till people get sick of it and dlc stops being the second coming of profit man.
I get the feeling they are going to take this dlc all the way to it's illogical conclusion of tiny addition for maximum outlay.

For prince of persia I've gotta disagree. The ending to it was **** perfect. They've said they've designed this to be far more challenging in response to the complaints of the game being too easy and it carries on the story after the end.

^ Oh, I totally agree - I liken the mass whinging about perceived profit loss from trade-ins lately to the RIAA whinging about each track downloaded being a sale lost...

Just throwing out a theory (and trying to put a nail into the 'all DLC is just content that would have otherwise shipped with the game! WAH!' complaint that is so common at the moment) was all.

i agree with Benza wrt this DLC.

if they'd added another chapter after the end of the game, it would've ruined the climax, in fact as much as i want it, i'm worried the DLC will ruin the climax in the wait for the next full game.

i also never considered FO3 or F2 packs to be quick cash-ins which could've been included in the full game, since we are 3-4 months after the full game, and extremely polished. in fact, i felt the F2 pack had more polish that the main game. but then packs like those for Dead Space i feel nothing but bewilderment about. i haven't bought them, but the look like what would've been unlockables for completing the game last gen, yet they're charging for them?

This could turn my most hated game of 08 (cause of the ending) to a great game if it explains the end, tells a great story and improves the game difficulty

why didn't you like the ending?

i thought it was brilliantly unconventional, and while i don't usually like cliffhanger endings, i thought it was handled fantastically well in order to set up a much larger story. it's like now, the real story can begin.

I've seen excellent DLC that adds content and polish to a game like Burnout Paradise or Fable 2 or the huge selection of songs in Rock Band, and then I've seen the sheer evil money grubbing of nickel and dimeing consumers of Namco in Soul Calibur 4 in which I had to pay more to unlock content ON THE DAMN DISC!! like costumes and Vader (Yoda if you are PS3) with 100k downloads which are obviously codes.

As for Prince of Persia, I finished it on the weekend and just have to try to see if my patience can handle getting the last 150 light seeds. I look forward to an extra chapter to the game.

Harder!?!?! Awesome.. if its more challenging... at least a little like the Sands of Time series... would be great!

I liked the ending too, but am curious where this extra story will take it...

Hopefully not too pricey!!

Oh and I agree with ObsoletE the ending, you could see it coming a mile away from the cut scenes and I have to give them credit for being gutsy enough to go through with it. Not go all Hollywood happy ending.

I agree -- it does feel like the REAL story can now begin. But after spending so long thinking i was saving the bloody world only to have it all come undone. And for Ubi to make me play it.. to physically do it myself! I mean, watching it would have been unbearable, but to do it myself (and trust me i was screaming at the screen while doing it), it just pissed me off.
I agree though, it was different. I just felt that it was a bit of a betrayal and made me feel like i wasted my time.

I absolutely loved the ending, and I'm just hoping this DLC doesn't cheapen it in any way. Continuing the story is fine, but hopefully they won't lessen the blow.

If anything thats exactly WHY the ending was so great. I don't think I've ever become involved in a story as much as PoP and then the ending wich gives you NO choice whatsoever. You just have to do it.

Honestly I can't think of any game I've ever played that has ever effected me on an emotional level as the Prince of Persia one.

exactly!

i didn't want to do what i had to to get the real ending, i kept looking for ways out of doing it, but because there's no choice, it was emotionally sickening, bittersweet and betraying.

but so, so well done.

i can't even think of a film that had that sort of impact with it's ending.

Why the ending is bad

It betrays Elika massively, it makes the Prince look like a moron and it reverses all the work done in the game plus it makes the main villain besides the god, her father, totally irrlevant as the Prince copied him. Out of all thoes reasons the fact it makes the whole game actions useless within the game world. It just pisses me off

Thats, the entire point Neitzsche,

The prince values his relationship with elika more then anything else and is prepared to sacrafice everything, including his relationship with her, to save her life.

The end was interesting, but playing through the game diminished whatever impact it was meant to have on me. It's hard to connect with the characters after several hours of random cheesy dialogue.

It was also annoying to not have anything explained, or any loose ends tied up when it was all done.

Good game though.

Personally didn't like the ending neither did my partner, just finished Valkyria Chronicles, now there'a a ending i enjoyed!!! did love the new POP though and looking forward to more in the form of this DLC, this news stopped us from selling the game too so if that was Ubisofts intention all power to em!!!!

I think that theory kinda falls apart when you consider that EB Games regularly sell 'traded' copies of recent releases for around $5 less than the RRP.

Obviously people are willing to buy a second hand copy just to save 5 bucks or EB wouldn't bother. But it seems unlike that that same person wouldn't just pay the extra $5 for a brand new copy if the traded copy wasn't available right there on the shelf.
