The Weekend Steam

PALGN News | Niko Bellic and monster trucks await thee.
Welcome to The Weekend Steam, a new weekly feature here on PALGN that is dedicated to bringing you the latest specials available at digital distributor Steam. While we always take pride in our Australian Gaming Bargains feature, we never included Steam or any online retailer because they are primarily based overseas or import games (in other words, we prefer to support the local industry). Due to popular demand for Steam sales though, we decided to launch this new piece.

Steam’s weekend deal this week is none other than the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto IV, which has been slashed by 30% for a price tag of USD $34.99 (approx. AUD $52.51). Also on sale is the newly released Monster Trucks Nitro, which is going for USD $9.99 (approx. AUD $14.99) and will be available at that price until February 5th.

Grand Theft Auto IV follows the story of Niko Bellic, a war veteran of European background who has arrived in Liberty City in hopes of escaping his past. Together with his cousin, Roman, he quickly finds himself entangled in Liberty City’s criminal underworld. If you’ve played previous Grand Theft Auto games you can expect a similar structured gameplay in this outing. Brand new features include ‘morality choices’ where players have to choose between killing a character or sparing their life, and online multiplayer. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

Monster Trucks Nitro is a dirt racing sim. Players take control of monster trucks and go speeding through various tracks, jumping off ramps and unleashing nitro boosts along the way. There are apparently in-game leaderboards, additional trucks to unlock and medals to obtain. Sounds like some cheap racing fun for all you speed heads out there. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

Awesome that Palgn has decided to start covering steam bargains. Its a nice compromise to not having them included in the weekly bargains. But is it going to cover those weekend sales?

That's pretty cool that they are having deals on new release games, I hope they do Red Alert 3 soon. Already got 360 GTAIV though, not sure if it's worth getting on PC. I got a pretty decent rig but I heard it has performance issues.

I bought Mount and Blade last sale and have been loving the hell out of that game recently. Funnest indy game I've played since Audiosurf.

I buy through steam with US dollars on paypal anyway so the poor AU doesn't really make much difference to me.

Hurray for steam

Excellent, I've started to use Steam quite a bit so this'll be quite useful.

Nah they fixed that, it runs great now apparently.

Also why was there a paragraph describing what GTAIV is? It just seems pointless.

Nice work Joseph. I'm new to Steam and haven't purchased anything yet but I will check out your weekly updates!

If you like Monster Trucks Nitro you may also like Trials 2 (RedLynx's previous game).

Anyways, hooray for Steam bargains!

I'm glad the reaction to this has been positive so far. I was getting a few requests to include Steam sales in Bargains, and while I had a stance on supporting the local industry, this was a nice compromise.

GTA IV is the weekend deal... But yeah, we'll only post these up each week once the weekend sale has been posted on Steam. Given the time differences though, we'll either have the article up early Saturday mornings or sometime in the afternoon.

Yeah, I was debating about including the paragraph or writing it in a different way. I decided to describe it though since I wanted to set and introduce people to the formatting of these articles. That said, I'll look at improving the layout in anyway possible.

Nice - I've occasionally missed a weekend sale so hopefully I'll catch it here on Mondays.

As for GTA4 I'll pass. I have enough trouble making time to catch up with my own family so the last thing I want to do is have to hang out with Niko's.

You know who to blame for the name change. icon_wink.gif

And it's about time someone brought that up. icon_razz.gif
