This Week's Releases - 12/1/09

PALGN Feature | Here we go for 2009.
There were plenty of games to keep us occupied over the holiday season, and there are even more to watch out for in 2009. So, to kick off the year in video games, we present the first round of titles to land on store shelves.

First up for the week is Pandemic's Lord of the Rings: Conquest on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Nintendo DS. In the tradition of the Star Wars Battlefront games, players can battle their way across Middle-earth as either the forces of good or evil. Lord of the Rings: Conquest promises all the epic locations and battles from J.R.R. Tolkien's series of novels and Peter Jackson's movie adaptations. The demo for the game is currently available on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Mirror's Edge is delivered on PC this Thursday (our review of the console versions can be found here), and finally, game adaptations of animated movies Igor and Bolt are released.

Thursday 15th January

The Lord of the Rings: Conquest

Wii:

PlayStation 3:

Lotr Conquest looks alright but not a game I'd buy full price.

Anyone played the demo for LotR: Conquest?

^ On the ps3, it was alright. I found it kinda gimpy on the console though. I have played the SW BF games on PC and they were great, so I can only assume this will be much better on PC.

Looking forward to Skate 2. If it reviews well i'll be all over it.

Freedom until Killzone 2 for me. Well, freedom to whittle down my ungodly backlog, that is.

Wow that sux, I was looking to buy something this week.

Might have to finally take that No More Heroes plunge on the Wii.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, but I still can't decide wether to go homebrew region free for blood and risk an update that stops me from playing though or just get the safe local ver.

Look in all honesty if it's just the blood it doesn't bother me one bit, but I heard there is heaps of swearing and stuff cut out from it. Can anyone confirm that?

Keeping any of my consoles offline just isn't an option for me unfortunately.

Going to give LOTR Conquest a whirl, hopefully it's good. There's a lot of whinging about the multiplayer, but I don't play many multiplayer games as it is (though I might give it a try), so that doesn't really bother me. I want to experience my favourite parts of the movies; epic widespread battles.

I hate using the word "epic"...

^ i'd advise buying it somewhere with a return policy.

just quietly.

I played the x360 demo of LOTR Conquest and thought it was naff.

Was kinda a LOTR meets dynasty warriors, which might appeal to some!

Have you tried the demo?
yeah - and was disappointed. (hence the advice)

i was looking for a LOTR version of SW: Battlefront, and it doesn't look like it was delivered (admittedly, i haven't played the full game, which again is the reason for the advice).

i played a few matches online and found it to play exactly the same as SW: Battlefront. If it has lasers and the force id buy it for sure.

So what were the drawbacks of the demo? Or what made it incomparable to Battlefront?

My Chinese Coach DS might have been useful a few weeks ago, maybe ill pick it up when i get back for my next trip....

Trauma Centre: New Blood... next week? Wow that's unexpected. Must pick that up.

Does anyone know when We Ski and Snowboard is released in PAL? I was sort of unsure about the first one but this one looks amazing!
