Ubisoft rolls out the big guns for Christmas

PALGN News | Prince of Persia 2 and the new Splinter Cell within weeks of one another? Ah, go on then.
Ubisoft is planning a very merry Christmas this year for PAL consumers, with the announcement that some of it's very biggest titles - including the new Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell games - will be launched in the next few weeks or months.

World War II shooter Brothers In Arms (which is currently looking a country mile more promising than EA's glossy but shallow World War II titles - the scars of Medal of Honor: Rising Sun are still fresh) will get the ball rolling in mid- to late-October (we're informed the PS2 version is out in Q1 2005). That's to be quickly followed by two of the games on PALGN's 'most wanted' list, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (as it's known now) and Prince of Persia 2, with the prince and Sam Fisher set to appear some time in November. PoP2 will be appearing on all formats upon it's launch, but only Xbox or PC owners will be able to sample the delights of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, at least until the game appears on all other platforms (PS2/GC/GBA/N-GAGE) in Q1 2005.

As if those titles alone won't have us tied up for the holidays, they'll be joined at around the same time by the promising Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time (which Ubisoft is distributing for Square Enix on PS2, due 1st October), Myst 4 - Revelation (for PC, 1st October also), and (yes) Playboy: The Mansion (PS2, Xbox and PC - 5th November). And finally, EverQuest II is looking a likely bet for September. Ubisoft, we applaud you.

Naturally, there is a certain risk factor involved in packing your schedule to the gills around Christmas - PALGN can still recall the sublime first Prince of Persia drowning at retail last Christmas, only to be narrowly saved by Sony bundling it with Playstation 2 consoles. This time though, providing Ubisoft don't make some quite monumental cock-ups with the game itself (which is hard to see), we've every confidence Prince of Persia 2 can achieve great things at retail: the excellence of the first title has ensured the sequel will have a healthy, trusting fanbase. And we barely need to wish Mr Fisher luck - Splinter Cell games already make regular appearances at the top of charts everywhere.

As always, we'll keep you informed if any dates are changed or specified.

Pfft, no competition there at all, since I only ever buy one new game for Christmas. Gotta be SC3.

i saw a demo of that (Playboy) the other day... my god, there can not possibly be a worse game available...

unsurprisingly the production value of the game went as far as physically accurate breast bounce...

i honestly couldn't work out what the hell i was supposed to do... i guess instructions might make it better, but i doubt it...
