Australian sales charts, week ending 30/11/08

PALGN News | Another new number one.
After spending months as the perennial bridesmaid at number three, Wii Play - with bundled Wii remote, which of course has absolutely nothing to do with its popularity at retail - has ascended to take hold of the top spot. The ever-successful Wii Fit held onto its second spot, for once looking up at its former sidekick in first place. Family-friendly racer Mario Kart Wii made it an all-Wii podium, securing the third place. Making its first appearance in the charts in fourth place is PlayStation 3 shooter Resistance 2, while last week's champion, Singstar: ABBA suffered a big drop, falling to fifth place.

Grappler and former chart champion WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 - on the PlayStation 2, of all things - continuing its chart yo-yo act, bouncing up four places from last week to close at six. It's a boringly familiar name at seven - it's Brain Training on the Nintendo DS, back in the charts. Again. Blockbuster shooter Call of Duty: World at War, on the PS3, slipped a couple of places, closing the week in eight. Another former champion, Epic's Gears of War 2, can be found in ninth place, continuing its slow, gradual slide down the charts. New to the charts is the PC version of Call of Duty: World at War at ten, while the 360 version is nowhere to be seen.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

Its such a shame too, after owning both since release (well an imported copy of rock band) I feel that rock band is the better game. But it is my opinion after all

Poor HARMONIX. She is my succubus. But what did she expect when jumping into bed with EA? I have scabs now! While their development approach has improved they continue to shaft Australians. Who knows how long the delicious carrot would have been dangled if Activision didn't step up to the plate. EA hates you but loves your money! I never stopped hating them.

Wii Play? WHAT?

I have never held any respect for these tallies, they just make me cry for the idiocy of the general public.

Yes that's right, I don't consider PALGN users the general public. Most of us aren't stupid enough to wait in line for the latest Horsez game.

i think people are just looking for some multiplayer action on their wiis

I'm always amazed at how well Wii Play sells, the included games really aren't that good. Multiplayer action is obviously a big motivator. I really do wonder how many people use their copies of Wii Fit, so many people seem to be buying it, but it's just a gimmick really. At least Nintendo aren't completely dominating the charts this week, but they often seem to get the top spots. icon_neutral.gif I wonder about the future of gaming sometimes..

Uh.... its got a goddamn Wiimote packed in with it and it costs just as much, if not less, than a Wiimote by itself. I don't think it takes a genius to work out what is going on.

I think you'll find that it shouldn't say "Wii Play w/ Remote" it should actually say "Wii Remote w/ Wii Play". People just buy the pack because the game is basically given away for free when you buy a new wiimote.

Yeah de Blob has gone nuts this week. 65,000 WW according to vgchartz, its total is now 350,000 in about 10 weeks. We might just get this to a sequel and keep the Melbourne developers employed for a little longer.

But i did wonder why is there a star next to it? Doesn't that mean its a brand new release this week?

Wii play is easy to explain:

Bundled with sonic and mario & olympic games at Target (both for $100)

And you need at least 3 - 4 if you want a bass guitar - remotes for guitar hero.

I know I was forced to get another one for the household - and if im spending $70 on a mote by itself Im certainly going the extra $30 to get mario in the absence of any other mote bundles on offer.....

De blob being upto 50% off everywhere certainly wouldn't hurt it either.

Sales increase unit numbers --- gee who would have thought.

It means it is a new entry for the week. De Blob was on the charts before but dropped out. Now it's back. icon_biggrin.gif
