POTW: Are you a fanboy?

PALGN Feature | Computer says yes.
Of all the terms overused on the internet, few are invoked as quickly in heated arguments as 'fanboy'. Fanboys, according to urbandictionary.com, adore something to the point of letting "passion override social graces." This perhaps explains the general dislike of fanboys, but there is also something slightly endearing about the unbridled passion of a fanboy. To view the world through such eternally rose-tinted glasses must be a pleasure.

Therefore, we thought we'd ask the question: Are you a fanboy? Try and be honest, to yourself and the poll - it is anonymous after all.

I used to be the biggest Nintendo fanboy ever. Box and manual for all 5 consoles. I wouldn't even touch a PS controller without making some unnecessary comment regarding disease, etc.

Having said that, the Wii has been the biggest disappointment for me ever.I now own both a 360 and PS3 and can't believe the way I used to act icon_razz.gif Fanboys do make things fun though, as much as I'm not one I do like fanboys heaps. They often make me laugh ^^

I use and enjoy whichever console offers the most fun for the least cost. I have no brand loyalties, but I do have opinions over which console is better value.

I probably am slightly biased towards the fanboy side, but nevertheless, i enjoy reading other people's opinions in the hope that i'll discover something amazing about a game.

if you had polled me 5 years ago i'd have unequivocally said yes.

i was pretty much biased towards nintendo because i believed they made the best games, and to be fair, there was a pretty long list of AAA titles to back me up

but given the incredible number of highly talented developers out there atm, and that just about every game is multiplatform these days, company/platform biases seem pretty ridiculous

plus, i'd like to think that fanboyism is something people just grow out of, though i'm guessing some could prove me quite mistaken....

I own both a 360 and ps3 and love them both. Technology wise I like the ps3 (silent disc drive, blu-ray player and internet surfing), but there are so many great 360 games out there. I also own a DS so I can't say I'm a fanboy, other than a fanboy for video games in general.

Seriously if you are one sided with one brand you are missing out on some really good games.

But I guess I'm passive by nature so meh.

I am a Valve fanboy.
I do and will buy anything they put out, and love it all.

Yeah, pretty much anything they put out is solid gold. Can't wait for left for dead.

I used to be an XBOX fanboy...
Then I sold my XBOX for the 360 and stayed loyal to Microsoft.
Then I bought a WII and my loyalties got shared.
Then came the PS3 into the household and I had to split my loyalties 3 ways...
The PSP came in at the time of the 360 but never had loyalty issues as that was an outside gaming "thingy"...
The DS came a few months back and has completely taken over the PSP time...
However, at the back of my mind I still have a soft corner for Microsoft and the XBOX brand...

I guess I am a fanboy of gaming itself!!

I'm a bit of a fanboy myself (Sony). However I do own all consoles and dont hate one in particular. The Wii isnt as good as everyone says it is, and i hate how people continue to spend hundreds of dollars on Microsoft hardware that is quite frankly only worth $100, if that (which is what I paid for mine)... its like people forget about the RRoD over night or something.

The PlayStation franchise is so far the only consistent - with amazing games, beautiful and powerful hardware and not to mention the fact that unlike the Wii and 360 you can actually use third-party gear (HDD, headsets, keyboards, controllers, etc). The PS3 is my favourite anyway.

I wouldn't say I am a fanboy in the sense I rant and rave about one console being better then another. I own the PS3, 360 and Wii, and it isn't the console I judge its the game. The PS3 is probably my favourite "Next Gen" console, for the fact that its got free online (I am a cheap bastard) but I don't bash Wii and 360 lovers, because I am one.

Although, I am a fanboy for one particular game, who I will defend to my last breath. I bet no one can figure out what game that is icon_rolleyes.gif

I put down yes as I really do have a lot of love for gaming and don't try to hide it away from people. I think that the term fanboy is quite multi-facted and think that you can be a passoinate fan about a console or game series without dumping on others, as Canis has alluded to above.

I'm not really a fanboy. I'll sell whatever I can get my hands on.

Most gamers would be a fanboy of something, that's kind of how gaming becomes a bigger part of your lifestyle. If you didn't find something to become emotionally invested in, and champion as a result, then you wouldn't spend as much time playing videogames. I'm definitely a Final Fantasy fanboy, and can talk for hours on adventure games (especially CMI).

Own all three consoles and I still think the PC is better than all of them!!! :P

I don't call myself a fanboy but I certainly have a strong opinion about the strengths and weaknesses of the different platforms and games.

PS3 is my favorite console of this generation though for more than just a games console. I love all the media capabilities. I love it's interaction with my PSP. It completes the media room. MGS4 and LBP help to icon_smile.gif

I only play 360 stuff, so yea i guess i am.

I don't consider myself a "fanboy" of anything, but I have been accused of being a fanboy in the past (usually of Microsoft, which is ironic because I love my MacBook Pro). That and I just think the whole "console wars" schtick is old and busted.

Question is.. how does one define a 'fanboy'? My only next-gen console is the Xbox 360 (I own a DS and PSP, but they don't really count as next-gen).. but I have one because I found it to offer more games that suited my interests.

I guess the closest thing to me being a fanboy of would be the PC.. can you even be a PC fanboy? But yeah, have a discussion of Xbox Live vs PSN and I'll storm in and tell you they both suck and you should try a real online experience on the PC.

Anyway.. interestingly my number 1 game of all time is a Sony exclusive, my number 2 game of all time is a Nintendo exclusive and my number 3 game of all time is a Microsoft exclusive. Go figure.

A few years ago I use to be a hardcore Nintendo fanboy due to just the Zelda series even though I hated Mario games. I also use to always buy only Nintendo consoles and never play or completely disregard and insult anything from Microsoft or Sony and try and convince people to buy Nintendo things.

But about 2 months after the Wii I had enough of nintendo over the years of crap they had given us and seeing that the future looked horrible and just decided enough was enough and got rid of my fanboyism of Nintendo and looked at them all equally. Now im happy to say im not a fanboy for any console or system and support them all!

But for game series/publisher im still a Zelda and Valve fanboy lol.

A no for me, I still find it amusing I got voted Sony fanboy on here a couple of years ago. icon_razz.gif

I may have a slight bias towards the 360, but really if I could I would have all three.

Same for me. I'm not a console fanboy, as there are so many fantastic games on every console.

I do have strong opinions if I really like a game.

I used to be a fanboy and flame PS3. But now I want one, why oh why am I so interested in Little Big Planet.

Not a fanboy as such, but am a big fan of the Splinter Cell series.

Played Chaos Theory for the umpteenth time and I still not bored from it.
