Army of Two movie on the way

PALGN News | Fist-pounding on the big screen.
Variety are reporting that Universal has teamed up with EA to develop a film based on this year's co-op shooter, Army of Two. Scott Z. Burns is attached to write the script, having previously written the screenplay for The Bourne Ultimatum.

Interestingly, rather than just licensing the rights to Army of Two to Universal, EA has actually signed on as a producer, potentially giving them much more control over the final product. Scott Stuber, who was previously attached to the failed Halo movie project, is also in line to produce. Burns was also interviewed about the movie, saying that, "I told EA right off the bat I wasn't a gamer, and that appealed to them because they didn't want to simply replicate the game."

Army of Two joins a long line of videogame adaptations in the works, with Bioshock, Gears of War and even Duke Nukem all reportedly being groomed for the big-screen treatment. With Max Payne, the latest videogame adaptation, recently topping the American box office, the long list of these adaptations will most likely continue to grow.

Hooray! The news could've only been better if it was Uwe Boll directing instead. /sarcasm

... the game was crap to say it in the nicest possible way..

Game to movies ALWAYS suck, considering the game this movie is going to be ased off, it cant get any worse, at least there wont be ANY hype.

I enjoyed the game, to say it in the nicest possible way.. The movie may or may not do very well, but hell, I'll get see it.

To be honest, if they took the concept and not copied the game it could make a hectic movie. With all the scary death masks and stuff it could make a pretty insane action movie. out of any game to movie thingo its this that i think could work.

Oh my Gawd. Why must movies be made of games that are already based on movies? Tango and Cash! No buddy movie's ever going to surpass that miracle, why even try?

Ugh, I have a bad feeling about this. Also, 'Notsofat', Max Payne is an example of video game butchery.

The movie and game genres rarely if ever compliment each other but this will not put off game/movie studio's cashing in on each others franchises, and we all know why...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

They really don't need to make a movie based on this game. I loved the game, but don't think it needs a movie, it would just be a basic action move with 2 heroes instead of 1.

So were all the Resi films.

I liked the game (coop & single) and I think that the premise is perfect for an action flick. It's good to see a studio investing in their brand. ResEvil movies feed back into the game's popularity. Anything Uwe has done simply destroys brands. After investing millions of dollars in a title, why would you sell the rights (and pretty much any chance of a future) for a hundred grand to a guy who makes sure noone wants to play your game ever again? Might be a few regretful execs after Max Payne proves there's money in game adaptations like what comic book movies have made in last 5-10 years.
