The PALGN Podcast, Episode 48

PALGN Feature | The role of reviewing.
In this episode of the PALGN Podcast, we're going lean, mean and streamlined. What we're really trying to say is that we've had an action-packed week and have therefore boiled the podcast down to its barebones - a single discussion. This week, it's the role of reviews, and we're continuing last week's experiment for our podcast, with Tristan, Daniel, and Evan revolting against Skype and deciding to do things up close and personal.

And, don't forget that our eGames competition continues to run this week - tune in for your chance to win a double pass for a full day at the expo. If you're one of the winners, we'll be in contact shortly to explain how to claim your prize.

This week's outro remix is ReMix: Perfect Dark 'Clandestine' by Krispy and distributed by OverClocked ReMix (www.ocremix.org). For the full bitrate version, why not head over to OverClocked ReMix and download it?

Remember, if you don't want to miss any of our weekly podcasts, make sure to subscribe via your favourite podcasting service, whether it be Apple iTunes, Creative ZenCast, or a GPL alternative such as Juice.

I agree with it being hard to write good stuff, as a reviewer myself, I find writing history about the game annoying to write and personally I don't like them in my reviews.
I mostly like to talk about how a game plays and sounds but sadly that leaves a review a little short and it dreads me that I have to add the history for filler.
I'm still learning to write better reviews by trying to find ways to flesh out reviews so I don't have to add crap like that.
This probably the reason why I am not satisfied with most of my reviews.

Anyway, great show, raised a few good points.

Double fist pump, I won something, good timing too since I really couldn't bothered being a wiseass and sending an email every single time to flood the draw with my name for epic victory!

@ret: Out of interest, what do you think you've learned by starting to write reviews? And, what do you think is the difference between good reviews and bad reviews?

Well I learned how to spell better icon_lol.gif and I have also learned to appreciate gaming even more which I didn't think was possible for me.

What I think makes a good review, is giving the readers something entertaining and informative, not in history wise but giving the reader a clear picture on how the game plays, as I think the whole point of the review is talking on how the game feels in you own opinion, which is the whole point of reviewing games.
I think some reviewers are too scared to give there own opinion on a game, that's why I decided to go freelance reviewing so I won't be restricted on what I say.
A good example is the gamespot Kane and Lynch review, and if I was given a chance to review that I would of given it a lower score as it was not that good of a game.

So yeah, those are my opinions on the subject.
