The PALGN Podcast, Episode 45

PALGN Feature | Focus: Star Wars games, a chat with Al Lowe, and Game Ed 101.
In the forty-fifth episode of the PALGN Podcast, we speak to Leisure Suit Larry creator and adventure game designer Al Lowe about his career in the industry. It's an edited version of the full, over thirty minute interview that's included in the podcast - check back on the weekend for a transcript of the complete interview. We also take a look back at the history of Star Wars games with Denny, Tristan and Daniel. Game Ed 101 rounds out our weekly content as well, with a look at the 'games-as-art' debate. We're also continuing our eGames competition this week, so tune in for your chance to win a double pass for a full day at the expo. We also announce last week's winner.

This week, we've used music from the Star Wars: A New Hope Original Soundtrack, with "Main Title" and "Attack of the Sandpeople" being included. Short segments from Leisure Suit Larry 1 (EGA), Leisure Suit Larry 1 (VGA), and Leisure Suit Larry III also used. Our outro remix is also different this week, with OverClocked ReMix (www.ocremix.org) taking a break, and instead the original 8-bit Dark Forces "Imperial March" medley being included.

I loved that game ed if only for the "making me a whole 9 years older than you" which had me thinking of two old guys on a playground with one guy using the only slide there going nernie nernie at the other one. But damn, he certainly showed that young whippersnapper didn't he, even better that it was a Brit.

Al Lowe though, had me in stitches the whole time, even if the audio was a bit patchy at times (have your work cut out for you this time Daniel?)so yeah, Evan good job in not just bursting out into your cackle constantly. icon_razz.gif

Actually, it was Evan who got to wrestle with that one. I don't envy him. icon_razz.gif

Yeah, good choice to let him keep it. icon_razz.gif

And I just had a random thought, Star Wars Golf, so that when you inevtiably spit the dummy at it you can carve the balls in half or sneak the hole in one and Jawas would be caddies!

Pure win right there, especially when the emperor hits a mynock and then ends up frying every animal on the course with lightning! icon_biggrin.gif

Still hoping to win a double pass for me and my dad. icon_pray.gif

Al's a legend - it was an absolute pleasure to talk to him. Unfortunately, a combination of worsening sound issues and pure length meant that we had to cut the second part of the interview - he said some really interesting stuff.

Keep your eyes open for this weekend when the full-text goes up (including the second part) - it's well worth reading.

Don't forget to enter if you haven't and are keen to attend eGames, too - quite a few tickets left that're up for grabs. icon_smile.gif

And thanks everyone for the positive feedback - we've got a lot more interesting stuff and people coming up, stuff that should be interesting, informative, and more importantly, entertaining.

Did he have a bevy of beautiful ladies hanging off him as I always imagined he would?

Well, I thought I heard some tittering and clinking glasses in the background, but I was too polite to comment ...
