Australian sales charts, week ending 24/08/08

PALGN News | More or less the same as they were last week.
There's a new number one in the Australian charts this week. Its name is none other than Mario Kart Wii, rising to the top after bouncing around the top five for the last few months. This knocked former number one, the ridiculously successful Wii Fit, down to second place. At third place, just like it seems it is every week, is Wii Play, completed with the bundled Wii remote. Climbing up two spots, and ending up exactly where it was two weeks ago, is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Singstar Amped, the new snowboarding karaoke game from Sony, has moved into the charts, and taken up residency in position five.

Beijing Olympics 2008 for the PlayStation 3 moved up to sixth place - and will now be promptly relegated to bargain bins everywhere, given that its period of relevance has passed. Brain Training managed to claw back the place it lost last week to push up to seven. Positions eight and nine are occupied by Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, with the DS version higher than the Wii one. Given that the Olympics are over, will these games start to fall from the charts? Probably not. Closing out the Olympics is Beijing Olympics 2008, again, this time on the Xbox 360.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

You mean, when the charts were filled with Singstar, Eyetoy and Sims years ago, we were in the "hardcore" phase of gaming!?

those charts pretty much indicate how much gaming has changed, but it seems like games are becoming more and more accessible to a wider range of people, and the wii is to thank for that...

people who have never gamed before may then think hey this is fun i might invest in a 360 or a PS3 as well....i mean if MGS4 was still at the top you would be able to tell a different tale as who is buying consoles out there....
