The PALGN Podcast, Episode 40

PALGN Feature | Random Walk: spoilers, journos, music, and a chat with Greg Tannahill.
This week, the PALGN Podcast sizes you up, puts on its coat and asks you politely for a turn about the grounds. That's right, it's Random Walk. In this installment, Jeremy tells us what he really thinks about the state of games journalism, Daniel has a listen to some of the most interesting videogame soundtracks available, and Tristan spoils a good (random) walk with his complaint about complaints about spoilers.

We also bring you our exclusive interview with Greg Tannahill, Democrat politician and gamer, who tells us why Australian politics needs to change. He also clues us in on his gaming habits, and argues his case for your number-one-in-a-box come the ACT election later this year. We also pit ludology and narratology in a cage match to end all cage matches in Game Ed 101. All in all, clocking in at 39 minutes exactly, this PALGN Podcast is one you don't want to miss.

This week's outro remix is Super Mario Bros. 2 'Gypsy Jazz' by Adrian Holovaty and distributed by OverClocked ReMix (www.ocremix.org). For the full bitrate version, why not head over to OverClocked ReMix and download it?

Remember, if you don't want to miss any of our weekly podcasts, make sure to subscribe via your favourite podcasting service, whether it be Apple iTunes, Creative ZenCast, or a GPL alternative such as Juice.

As soon as iTunes updates and installs, I'll be subscribing. :D

It's gonna take a looong time to get through the past episodes.

^^ I did that a few months ago. It was definitely worth it though, it's my favourite podcast on the web.

The guys have great discussions and it's pretty funny sometimes too. It's going to take a while to get used to the more segmented episodes of late though icon_confused.gif

You don't like the newer format? We're always open to feedback.

You mean in the Game Ed 101 section? I think that's the only time it's used.

during the last ep it was used for quite a while. the cast certainly isn't over using it and abusing my ears with explosions and blips n crap. just something that i picked up and and thought id complain about.

If you are going to crap on about what i said - get it right first yeah....

i don't go to threads involving games i don't want to know about, hence why i got pissed, it was in a thread about something entirely unrelated to that game.

Ah whatever, wish granted......

Hmm, okay. As far as I know, it's only ever been used in the Game Ed 101 sections, but point noted.

+1 to Jeremy for the love of the Tales of Symphonia music. Nice interview also.

Oh! That outro music was great. Sounds like Django!

Yeah! I loved it as soon as I heard it. I simply adore Django, so it was a no brainer to choose that for this week's outro.

Just for the record, I only brought up your name at the start to give you credit for opening discussion on the topic, not as a target for any counterpoint.

I actually think it's not only a discussion worth having, but also an issue that has no truly correct answer. Sorry if I, or anyone else on the podcast, gave you the impression that we were having a go at you directly. I think that some of us actually share some of your issues with spoilers.

I can't belive I didn't notice that this had been replied to icon_eek.gif

Anyway, I definitely think that the new format is an improvement, it's just that I always liked that the discussions were nice and long, whereas now other sections are cutting into that time icon_sad.gif

It is growing on me though, the segments on Game Ed and Narratology vs. Ludology were very interesting.

Haven't listened to one of these in a while... I think the last one i listened to was in the 20's.

Like the new format, but i'd have to +1 Stanky's comment. The "introduction" to the segments sounded a little cheesy. That and the music. The stuff in between segments changed my smirking to "ah, my ears", what was it anyway? I don't listen to many podcasts, but do they all say umm and like as much? Makes y'all sound like regular folk, but still...

/nitpicking

Thoroughly enjoyed the interview, hope he doesn't have a WoW relapse after/if he gets elected...

I should probably install iTunes again to subscribe so i don't forget to download these at home. Having not listened to these in a while, i'm going to have to google "Narratology" and "Ludology" to catch up.
