Australian sales charts, week ending 10/08/08

PALGN News | Nintendo wins the gold. And the silver. And the bronze.
Olympic fever has gripped the world, and, in the hope of one day being able to nab a medal of their own, people have flocked to their local gaming emporium and purchased Wii Fit by the truckload. Well, that's our theory, anyway. At second place is the Wiimote - sorry, Wii Play, followed closely by the rather sporty Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games in third, enjoying a rather large spurt in sales that might just have something to do with the Olympics. Mario Kart Wii's rather erratic driving around the charts has resulted in it ending up fourth, with Super Smash Bros. Brawl fighting its way into fifth place, to make the top five all Wii.

The Nintendo DS version of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is present and accounted for at six, with Brain Training continuing its quest to train the world right behind it at number seven. The big men with giant swords and small women with big, uh, weapons in SoulCalibur IV on the PS3 are the order of the day at eight. Grand Theft Auto IV - again on the PS3 - has killed off a horde of games in its quest to get back in the charts in ninth place. Beijing Olympics 2008 in tenth place makes it three Olympic games in the top ten.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

Nintendo Wins, gamers lose

^ Except for the fact that both Mario Kart and Smash Bros are up there, both of which are brilliant "lawl gamerz" games.

Nintendo wins, whiny "I'M SO HARDCOOOOORE" fanboys lose.

ok, when you start pondering videogame character's bodily wastes, it's time to step back from the controllers for a while...

It would be interesting to some actual console sale figures.

With Nintendo & Sony ruling the software charts it looks like M$ might looking down the barrel at 3rd place this gen.

Even with their head start.

I'm not dissing PSP or EA Sports - as I love their games, but look how 'far behind' the PSP is. In the Top 10 are FIFA 08 and NBA Live 08. I'm not dissing anything here, it's just wierd.

Unless they are really good games, I don't know... Are they?

Check the PC sales charts. The top game came out in 2004, and the majority of the rest are Sims 2 expansion packs (including... *shudder*.. "Ikea Stuff"), which are also based on a game that came out in 2004.

'Bratz - The Movie' is a popular game on GBA.

And I thought PSP and PC were behind.

Bratz the movie is the only GBA game other than Pokemon still in stock at any shops. The Target near me has a stack of them for $5 each.

^Remember that it's meant to only count games that cost over a certain amount though. $30 for GBA games. Saddens me to think that people would spend over $30 on a Bratz game. icon_sad.gif
