POTW Results turn back the clock for E3

PALGN News | Overwhelming support for a return to past glories.
Last week, we asked what should be done with E3. After receiving criticism from seemingly all quarters, and an indifferent reaction from the general gaming public, it seemed a good time to gauge support for future directions for the show.

Well, a week is up, and the results are clear. An overwhelming 73% of respondents to our poll indicated that E3 would be best off returning to the old model of spectacle and show. The next most popular option, with almost 18% of the vote, suggested that E3 should be continued in another direction than either the current or the previous models. It's also worth noting that only a feeble three votes were cast in support of keeping E3 as it currently is.

Not surprising really, given we're the ones that benefited from the old extravaganzas. It's like asking a 5 year old kid if they want more cookies, no strings attached.

I was looking back at some old trailers from old E3s recently. Nothing this year came anywhere near to creating the hype and excitement that seeing the original Killzone 2 trailer or the first gameplay footage of the Halo 2 campaign did. I especially miss the montage of "Coming soon" gameplay that the big three did.

So what if the old E3 was all about "how massive can we get our advertising to be?" It was fun and it made you excited about what was coming, which is what these conferences should be all about.
