POTW: Who will have the best E3?

PALGN Feature | It's crystal ball time.
This week, the E3 Media and Business Summit will creak into motion and give game developers and publishers the chance to reveal their wares to the world. Most importantly, though, will be what the big three - Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo - have in store. Therefore, we thought it appropriate to ask you to consult your personal crystal ball and delve into the future. Who will triumph?

There have been rumours floating around the internet (as there always are) for several weeks now, which might inform your choice. Will Microsoft reveal a motion-sensing controller for the Xbox 360? Will Nintendo upgrade the DS? Will Sony finally prove those commentators who predict this will be their year correct?

However, we advise the following method: trust your gut, close your eyes, click, and vote. Don't forget to track the results as they go, as we'll announce your chosen winner in one week.

Sony.

They'll either do everything properly, blow everyone out of the water and actually have the 'best', or they'll bomb like the like few years and it'll be the best for us. Either way is good.

Sony. We already know what's MS is going to hit us with. This is how I see it:

Nintendo - will focus on casual multiplayer games and their core franchises

Microsoft - will continue to try to take a slice of the casual market and as such will not direct attention enough at the games I care about

Sony - will play the blockbuster cards to, as DIU said, "blow everyone out of the water." We already know about the Sony casual franchises (Singstar, Buzz etc) so we'll hopefully see some stuff with substance

Microsoft could do quite well if they unveil Alan Wake. That game could be awesome (I love the idea of physics/light as weapons). The main benefit Microsoft has is that they can showcase PC gaming as well, which is disturbingly absent from the poll. It's not dead guys.

TBH, the main games I'm excited for are all PC (or I will be getting them on PC). The Force Unleashed is the only console game I'm salivating over, and that's on all 3 platforms.
Diablo 3, SC 2, Fallout 3, Project Offset, Portal 2, Battlefield 3, even Alan Wake.

PC gaming isn't a company that can hold press conferences. I assume this is more what this is about, not which platform will have the best games - otherwise the options would be the consoles themselves, not the companies.

My vote is for Sega. They will finally announce the successor to the Dreamcast and all will be right in the world.

While on that topic, im also looking forward to Nintendo scrapping friend codes, EA stating that Rock Band will be released in Australia on the 1st of August 08 across all platforms and a beam of light shooting out of Kaz Hirai's ass, who then goes on to announce that the PS3 pricing will be cut in half and Dual Shock controllers will be swapped with any SIXAXIS ones that PS3 owners currently have in their posession, free of charge!

Of course noone is in control of PC gaming - what I meant was that if the poll is asking "Who will have the best E3?", the answer is that it will probably go to companies making PC games rather than companies making console games. The console wars debate is interesting, but tbh, I think it's become a little stagnant - unless someone is hiding a major ace up their sleeve (something like Alan Wake).

I know there will probably be a few sequels announced, but I'm a little sick of rehashes. I'd much rather see new IPs like Bioshock or Assassin's Creed than revisit old ones (though funnily enough, those 2 series are the ones I'd love to see sequels too).

Fortunately for you Lord Haart, the ace will come in the form of Assasin's Shock. Ubi and 2K have settled their differences and decided to maximise profits across all margins by merging their titles together into a single game which will be a sequel to both of their original IPs.

Back to all seriousness though, you have me very interested in Alan Wake. PC is a strong contender and this year looks to be no exception to that fact. There are some real gems on the way that have my interest.

Alan Wake will be the bees knees, Remedy have yet to disappoint in their titles (except in the case of timely releases, man they know how to drag out the development time).

Thanks for making my early morning wake up (well, early for uni holidays) easier to bear. icon_biggrin.gif icon_lol.gif

I'd have voted blizzard, though they already dropped the D3 bomb, still with SC2 comming out soonish (early 2009?) they should have some good stuff to show :D

But since that wasn't an option I voted sony, why? Because I found out disgaea 3 is comming to PS3 :D

In case you aren't aware of what disgaea is, it's about the most over the top, crazy-insane strategy RPG ever!

Activision, but only if they get Jamie Kennedy back to host. icon_wink.gif

actually, tbh the number one thing i REALLY want from this E3, is a date for Wrath of the Lich King (and yes, i realise the irony given Blizzard and Activision have now merged).
there are a lot of other things i want to see (God of War 3, SC2 date, etc.) but obviously the surprises aren't known yet, so i don't really know who will "win" this E3.

Apple will win big time iPhone/iTouch games. ;)

Of the 3 main players I think Sony will. Might be biased since i just got a PS3 icon_razz.gif.

My vote goes to Sony.

That God of War 3 trailer is probably going to be this year's Killzone 2, without the nasty backlash. Do you all remember how phenomenal God of War 2 looked? GoW3 can't be anything other than eye-melting.

We'll also probably hear a lot more on Home, like for example when the damn thing will be open to the public. It's always looked very promising to me so it'd be great to finally get some concrete info.

Then there's Final Fantasy XIII... it's been a while since we've seen or heard anything from that game, although there's always the chance that it'll be more a TGS thing.

That said, I truly think this E3 will belong to Ubisoft at least on a personal level. Beyond Good and Evil 2 and the new Prince of Persia. Those two right there make up my most wanted games. If they both have a decent showing at E3, that's all be I'll be thinking about for the months following.

And then there's also the slightest chance that Assassin's Creed 2 might tease it's way in, but seeing as that team is hard at work on Prince of Persia, I'm not too confident.

They also have a still unanounced MMO project remember.

I reckon Sony aswell, but if Nintendo come out with a HDD add-on and one of the following:

A new Kid Icarus
A new Pikmin (Pikmin 3)
A new Punch-Out

..then it'll be tough choosing a fave for the event. Still God of War 3....it's gonna be hard to mess with that (maybe all 3 of the above together would trump it) so yea votes going to Sony.

Also what's this banned rubbish i'm seeing?! If you wanna get rid of me you just have to ask and i'm out.

That's a little weird that you're banned and still... well posting?

I think Sony will have the best showing, followed closely by Microsoft (if they show Alan Wake) and then Nintendo far away. It's possible Microsoft might have a better showing than Sony, but with games like LittleBigPlanet, InFamous, SOCOM Confrontation, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Heavy Rain, Motorstorm and more, Microsoft better really have a packed line-up to steal the show.

Yeah a big surprise from MS would definitely steal the show from Sony. Killer Instict 3 anyone? icon_biggrin.gif

Nintendo, simply because there are no concrete details. So hopefully there will be surprises for all. A Pikmin 3 or Punch Out (done right) would launch Nintendo's E3 far out of the stratosphere for me. As well as Retro's new game.

Then again, the horrid Youtube vids could come back. Please Nintendo, don't be blinded by your money.

Can i wear the 'banned' banner all the time? It actually looks awesome, but i'd still rather know what's up with that? Is someone too chicken to tell me or something? Is it a surprise? Does it apply from tomorrow? I'm taking crazy pills dammit!!

Apparently FF13 won't be present at E3 :/, but i agree that it will most likely be shown more at TGS. Personally in terms of final fantasy I wanna hear more about the Crystal Chronicles on the wii. Though overall i believe sony might be good at this years event

Nintendo. A (hopefully) new zelda, though unlikely if nintendo do announce this it will just wipe out the rest, well for me anyway, and as ?oe?oe said Pikmin3, and Punchout, if done correctly, would steal the show.

Blizzard... wait that's not an option, damn it.
