This Week's Releases - 23/6/08

PALGN Feature | Alone with brawling brothers and bad company.
This week, there are a number of super games on the cards. Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii finally reaches Australian shores this Thursday. The third instalment in the massively popular series includes the likes of Mario, Link, Pikachu, Zelda and Peach, and new faces Sonic the Hedgehog and Metal Gear's Solid Snake. Super Smash Bros. Brawl can be played with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller or GameCube Controller.

In the portable gaming arena, players can smash their way through Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword on the Nintendo DS. For something completely different, Guitar Hero makes its debut on the Nintendo DS with Guitar Hero: On Tour, which comes bundled with a Guitar Grip peripheral and pick-stylus. PlayStation Portable owners also have a few options this week, with ATV Offroad Fury Pro and Everybody's Golf 2.

Gamers can team up with a band of mercenary brothers in Battlefield: Bad Company on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The first-person shooter, developed by the team behind Battlefield 2, features massively destructible environments, so cover from enemy fire is no longer assured. For more on the single-player campaign and multiplayer, visit our interview with the game's producer. We also have twelve copies of the sandbox shooter up for grabs. Stay tuned to PALGN over the next few days for more on Battlefield: Bad Company.

Other games hitting shelves this week for the PlayStation 3 include NASCAR 09 and Overlord: Rising Hell (click here your final chance to win a copy of the latter). Xbox 360 owners can pick up the expansion to Command and Conquer 3, titled Kane's Wrath. Multiplatform releases include the game adaptation of the DreamWorks movie Kung Fu Panda and Top Spin 3.

Finally, Atari have confirmed that its survival horror title Alone in the Dark will be available on the Xbox 360, Wii, PC and PlayStation 2 this Thursday, so you won't have to brawl your way through the city looking for the game next week.

Remember to stay up-to-date with the best deals on all the above games by visiting Australian Gaming Bargains.

Can't wait to pick up my Bralw pre-order.

Wow, alot of games for me this week and I only picked up my copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 last Wednesday. I've only played upto Act 6 on NG2, haven't even tried MGS4, nor have I even played my copy of Commandos 3: Wolfs of the Battlefield on Xbox Live (played it at Zarnoss') and I gotta buy about 4 games this week. Crazy!

Gotta pickup Eternity's Child for Wii along with Super Smash Bros: Brawl (finally!), 1942: Joint Strike for 360 and Alone in the Dark (probably go with the 360 version) if I can get that mad special edition.

I should have enough games for most of the year.

Will def pick up Top Spin 3, been getting some good reviews.
Might pick up Battlefield as well, or just use EB Games 7 day return policy on it.

To the poverty line it is for me. I was actually hoping they didn't bring out Alone in the dark early that way I'd have a bit of breathing space and time to get the dough. Be definitely buying Top spin 3, Battlefield and Alone in the dark. That's 5 games in 2 weeks bought Civ and Grid last week. I generally wouldn't buy 5 games in 6 months.

I am gonna take back Lego Indy on the DS and get Bad Company on the PS3. I just reckon Bad Company would have more replay value. Lego Indy has about 20 hours.

Well Brawl for me and I guess I'll pickup 1942 on 360 as well

I just went and put down pre-orders for Alone in the Dark (360) and Super Smash Bros: Brawl.

Ok with Alone in the Dark it's available on PC, 360 and PS3 but only PC and 360 are getting that mad special edition (with figurine, artbook etc). Also the guy at GAME hadn't heard anything about an early release date, so take that as you will. They are selling the special edition for $119.95.

With Super Smash Bros: Brawl at GAME they are selling it for $99.95 but they have an offer where if you pre-order you have a choice of price-matching or getting a Wii Classic Controller for free. I might go with the price match thing cuz already have a classic controller and think they're pretty crap actually, so yea might get them to price match with JB Hi-Fi who hopefully should be selling it around the $79 mark.

Btw i'm shopping at GAME cuz there is a legend working at Warringah Mall called James and GAME have that mad points card which i've clocked up a few miles on so hopefully that all pays off (you get money back which imo is the best kinda deal).

Yeah I sometimes get from GAME for the same reason but only if they have a decent price or good pre-order deals as otherwise the vouchers you get don't offset getting the games cheaper from JB as my local ones rarely price match.

GAME's website reads 26/06/08 for AITD now - LINK. And as the link reveals, the "$10 down, $10 off" pre-order promotion should be valid on the LE as well as the standard version.

And the PS3 version is not out till September or October. EDIT: So thats probably why there is no LE listing for the PS3 version yet...

Yes, JB's June catalogue is advertising Brawl for $79.

Place your bets on whether or not Brawl will force a Wii system update. Im betting money that it will.
Well we just got an online 3.3 update, so it might force that one, not sure if it will force anything further though? Might be Brawl specfic if it does.

Anyway, it's going to be great! icon_biggrin.gif

^^ Damn straight. I don't care if it forces me to update, I don't have a freeloader anyway icon_razz.gif I hope you guys will be up for some Brawlin' Thursday night icon_biggrin.gif

MGS 4 is all i need for the time being. At least until bioshock / re5 / fallout 3 and Little Big Planet hit shelves.

1942 and Strong Bad for me, methinks.

I've got a Freeloader which I got just to play the correct version of No More Heroes (read: uncensored!), and seeing as Nintendo is too pathetic to release Trauma Center: New Blood on PAL regions anytime soon, then I shall import that too. If it means I have to begin mass importing of NTSC titles and continue to use the Freeloader to prevent a bundled firmware override which only serves to increase waiting time for PAL releases, so be it.

Kiss my ass Nintendo, you bunch of ungrateful swine. If your PAL counterparts are too inept at their damn job, then how about getting on their asses instead of forcing us to suffer their incompetence through ridiculous updates?

Infact, im willing to bet my left nut that these pr*cks will gladly heap the latest firmware update onto PAL Brawl discs knowing how popular it will be. Think of this move as being the application of a sandpaper condom as they ream PAL consumers further, whilst taking oodles of cash and yet also laughing in our faces with each thrust.
