Consoles aren't eco-friendly enough

PALGN News | Greenpeace not happy with manufacturers.
Consoles are causing unnecessary damage to the environment according to Greenpeace, and believes that manufacturers should be doing more to make their consoles more eco-friendly

The company recently conducted a study of dissected PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii consoles and were not very happy with the results, according to this report. Bad bad chemicals and compounds, such as beryllium, bromine, polyvinyl chloride and phthalates, were found in the consoles, which are apparently quite toxic and hazardous.

The news wasn't all bad, though. Greenpeace did note that console manufacturers have improved though, avoiding some toxic materials (some due to legal restrictions). However, there is still plenty of room for improvement.

"If manufacturers only looked at each other's products, they'd quickly see ways of replacing their own dirty components with toxic-free materials," said Greenpeace on their site. "A greener, cleaner game console is possible. There's no excuse for playing dirty."

could you imagine microsoft doing an eco friendly xbox 360?

2 hours play, RROD on 90% of the consoles

but now when you chuck your 360 away green peace will be happy that its bio-degradeable

When wasn't anything an ecological issue?
Maybe its just me getting fed up of "be green and help the environment!" getting jammed into my head 24/7, but I really couldn't give a toss about being "eco-friendly" anymore.

The only thing that'll stop fossil fuels is when they run out.
Face it, the world is too reluctant. It doesn't look like Solar power or something will be our main power source any time in the future.

The problem with Greenpeace is that all they can do is whine. None of them are in a position of power great enough to change things themselves and none of them have the expertise to offer reasonable, constructive advice. They are basically an organisation of good intentions and hot air.
Nonsense, Bob Brown of the Greens would be more than happy to throw his party's weight behind any economically feasible solution GP come up with since it would effectively vindicate his parties line that greener alternatives are more / as viable as the current standard and he was right a decade ago, humble pie etc. They have a direct link to the Australian parliament which in turn could theoretically then use some weight to at least attempt a shift in the European / Oceania market. GP also do have individual who know what they're doing in regard to specific fields or else really they'd just attract the stereotype hippies / troublemakers / psuedojustice individuals.

They would be much more constructive if yes they still did whine, as people do need to hear of the problems or else they will continue thinking "it doesn't affect me, I'll deal with it when it does..." but then turn around and actually offer alternatives through consultation of those who effectively share the ideology but not the execution of the "hard line" approach. That they don't use said resources is their failing and not an excuse.
