POTW: Will you buy GTA IV locally or import?

PALGN Feature | Let us know.
Welcome a new feature of ours here on PALGN, the poll of the week. At the beginning of every week we'll be posting up a poll we'd like our readers to answer.

Then, every Sunday we'll post up the results. We've decided to kick the poll off with a rather simple question: will you be purchasing Grand Theft Auto IV in Australia or will you be importing? Grand Theft Auto IV is due for release on April the 29th and Australians were recently disappointed to find out that the Australian version of the game has been edited.

So, let us know at the following link whether you will be buying Grand Theft Auto IV in Australia or importing the game. Don't forget to check back next Sunday for the results and our next survey.

Probably a much more efficient way of ascertaining a consensus of what everyone thinks good stuff.

Good idea, I wonder if I'll be the only one to answer on the third option...

I'm probably buy the game locally. That is, if I actually do. As for the last four months it has been Grand Theft Auto this and Grand Theft Auto that at work. I'm pretty much sick of Grand Theft Auto.

What if your buying it on PC in october?.....

Ill just put not buying.

Locally. Doesn't really seem like there's much cut from the Aussie version anyway...

...By the way, good idea on Poll of the week icon_y1.gif

Locally. Want the special edition and it sounds like pretty minor things that have been removed.

Import......the price alone has me importing.

I can't find what is cut so I don't think I'd take the risk of assuming it's something "minor". I might import but will hold off for a while till I can figure out what is cut.

No, you've got me too. I'm not forking out any money for it when they put the RRP higher for no reason. I'll probably wait until it hits the $40-$50 mark on eBay/trade forums.. in which case I'll be getting the local version.

Importing just for that cutscene? (assuming that's all was cut).. weak.

This new poll idea is good Luke, however it'd be nice if we could see the results as the poll was being conducted.

Not. Buying.

GTA had gone down hill since the days of GTA 2 IMO

Where's the "buying from I don't know where but it won't be until my stupid **** Xbox isn't broken goddamn i hate you and your crappy console Microsoft" option?

Imagine your favourite movie had the coolest scene removed from it. Would you import it so you could have it complete to view in the way it was intended?

It's like people ragging on me for buying Braindead from the UK, just because in the UK it's called "Braindead" as opposed to the crap US title "Dead-Alive". So I went further and paid a little more money just for a title, not even anything to do with content.

For the casual gamer I'd agree with you but anyone who really loves this game/series shouldn't really be snubbed for wanting the complete package right down to the very last detail.

I'm buying all 3 of my copies locally...i'm only keeping one of course.

They've supposedly removed hooker scenes, dismemberment and slightly edited some cut scenes - LINK

None of those omissions concern me, and i'd rather get the game on launch then having to wait up to a week for an import. Plus i'm paying the same amount for each copy as it would be to import them, so again no benefit of importing.

EDIT: I shouldn't say "removed" hooker scenes, they've actually been edited so that all you can see is the back of the car. In the uncut version you get to see a glimpse of the 'service' being carried out.

don't see an option for both... or would i be the only one?

I'm importing, using a coupon at Play Asia I got it for almost half price what I can get it here, it just means I'll get it a few days after the rest of Australia.

But on the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog so I'm a little skeptical about some guy claiming that his "friend" has seen both and can vouch for X, Y and Z being missing. He may end up being entirely correct, but I'm remaining skeptical for now.

I will be buying the game on Tuesday locally.

I will then most likely order the USA version from Play Asia for under $80 bucks delivered.

Is the USA version UNCUT? I better make sure of that first.

Import, as with all but 3 of my PS3 games.

Mainly for the price factor. Sure if I see it in store when I am ready to buy it for $70 then I'd buy locally - but that is doubtful

I know the hookers and dismemberment bits are true, but the cut scene differences I don't. But apparently there's not much dismemberment so it might not be that bad.

As much as it frustrates me that we're getting ripped off, price wise and content wise, I'll be buying locally as I already have a preorder down, want the 500MS points and don't want to risk being dicked around when the DLC comes out*.

Im getting two versions of the game. At the moment its a pain to import a standard edition from the UK (there pretty much sold out for launch in all UK stores). So im getting a cut Aussie version of the Xbox 360, as region coding will be in full force on the Xbox 360.

I am importing the special edition uncut for the PS3 however. I want to be able to play all mates regardless on what console they own, so Im going to own it on 2 platforms, and have a cut version and uncut verson.

"Will you be purchasing Grand Theft Auto IV locally or in Australia?"

Isn't this the same thing?

preordered so locally then trying to find a cheap copy to have for the bedroom so i dont have to keep swapping like i am with cod. So probably importing second copy

I think the poll would be better off on the side under the left hand menu.

And with a view results button to see the latest results.
