Def Leppard to appear on Guitar Hero IV

PALGN Rumour | Band's guitarist spills the beans.
It's time to comb out your mullets and put on your skinny leg jeans, as 80s rockers Def Leppard are said to finally be stepping off the stage and into the world of Guitar Hero.

While Activision and Red Octane are keeping mum about the remarks made by Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen at the moment, an excerpt from the Def Leppard live interview with Rockline Radio has gone online with the band stating that "Photograph," "Animal" and "Rock of Ages" will be included on Guitar Hero IV.

The team at PALGN will keep you informed as more information comes to light.

Great, another person trashing GH and you haven't even played Rockband yet. GH is actually a better single player experience than RB, the multiplayer is what really makes RB shine.

How is it trashing? He said he's getting sick of the goddamn game, he didn't say "Guitar Hero sucks balls", you can only really go so far on Guitar Hero with the seemingly higher and more hardcore Difficulties before it just gets boring and causes RSI.

O RLY?!

I'd say that Rock Band is the better single player experience, actually - and yeah, I've played plenty of it. If all you want to do is wail away on the guitar controller, then sure... Guitar Hero is the game for you. If, however, you'd like to also try your hand at the drums (blurring the lines between gaming and actual hobby) and some vocals then Rock Band leaves Guitar Hero in the dust.

That aside, the Rock Band guitar controller squats and unloads all over any other Guitar Hero controller... so even if a third of the songs (or more, perhaps) aren't hardcore GH fare you can still get a better playing experience out of it.

The guitar in Rock band actually sucks, have you even played the game?

I've just spent the last 2 1/2 hours playing it, coincidentally - have had it at home for a week now, and had it at work longer. have you actually played it? A lot of people say the the Rock Band guitar is worse, because of the flappy picking mechanism, but if you actually play a few songs you get used to it quicksmart. Besides that, the shape of it makes it much easier to actually 'pick' than the GH guitars.

That aside, the larger size of it and the slightly larger buttons (flush with the neck, pretty much - rather nice) means you can play the damned thing without trying to squish your fingers together. The inline buttons make it a hell of a lot easier to 'slide' from one note to another, which is extremely useful.

I tried playing GHIII last night, and it was like smacking my face against a brick wall. I had to fight to try and hit the right buttons, they're just too small. Once you go to Rock Band its hard to move back to GH controllers... they're a step backwards.

I've actually finished the game last November, been playing it in my cousin's house in the US when I was there for 6 weeks. icon_lol.gif

I say I've putted in at least 20 hours as oppose to your 2 hours. So don't go on exaggerating how bad GH3 controller is. And I'm really surprised you liked Rock Band's guitar, I found it to be worse than Guitar Hero 3 controller, I even prefer GH2 controller to Rock Band's. In fact when we were playing it we replaced RB guitar with the GH2 controller.

And why are you acting so arrogant? I wouldn't expect this from a moderator

Finished? I'd say thats a pretty bold claim given there are three unique ways to play each song (for arguments sake lets say Bass doesn't count), and half the point of the GH/RB style games are continues play trying to better your performance. I'm not far off the 20 hour mark myself, and I'm in no rush to 'finish' the game.

I've already explained why I like the Rock Band guitar - it feels better, plays better, and looks better IMO. I just don't see myself going back to any of the GH games after this, the controllers are too damned small after playing something a bit more appropriately sized.

As for arrogance? If anything I'm just returning it in kind. Hell, at least I've been giving an argument as to why I like the Rock Band guitar - all you've managed to say so far is that you don't like it, and that should count more than my opinion because you've finished the game. You'll excuse me if I find that just a touch arrogant.

The fret buttons are not as prominent on the Strat (Rock band's controller), making it difficult to position the fingers correctly when trying to play with it. I also don't like the feel when pressing the fret buttons, the button feels a bit wonky. I don't understand how you hated the buttons on Guitar Hero's, a bit small? Obviously, it's your fat fingers, because majority of people aren't coomplaining.

And the strum bar is not flat like the GH controllers, it's sort of concave with a little notch on the end. It doesn't give adequate feedback, no clicking sound like the GH's, it feels so loose. This makes wildly strumming really difficult to hit all the notes. I've tried playing with the strat but on expert songs the strum bar fails to register 25% of my notes and I had to switch back to GH's guitars. And the tilt sensors is horrible often failing to register.

The quality of the guitar isn't that great too, I heard several more reports of the Strat breaking than the GH guitars. It is filmsy and it looks like it's going to break soon.

Next time, don't BS with your over exaggerated opinion. You're not the only one in Australia who has played it, that is if you actually 'played' it.

Lawl. A little precious, aren't we? I like the guitar because it works for me, and feels better than the GH controllers. Maybe you got a dodgy one, reports are the the early batches had all kinds of problems. Eitherway, calling my opinion 'over exaggerated' just because it differs to yours is a bit rich, especially when you're the one getting all worked up over it.

I've had no problems with the strumming at all, that said I haven't yet attempted many of the harder songs on Expert difficulty so it isn't to say I wont'. The only problems with strumming I've had so far is when I've gotten a little out of time with the song. As for the tilt, I've finding it a little oversensitive to be honest. I tend to play with the guitar on a bit of a diagonal slant, and often making a small movement from that position will trigger Overdrive when I didn't want to.

Not an exaggeration at all - it took three songs to get a handle on using the more tightly grouped and raised (them being raised after getting used to the inline ones was the biggest issue for me) and even then I was making all manner of mistakes because I couldn't get used to the difference. To me it was an exercise in pure frustration - something akin to trying to play a fighter on the XBOX d-pad after becoming adept at an arcade stick.

So you had to fight to hit the right buttons? Playing GH was like smashing a face against the wall? GH controller step backwards? Exaggeration much?

If you're confused, he didn't mean literally smashing his face against a wall.

Conversation? I wouldn't even call it that man. You're basically arguing with a wall, so you might as well smash your face into it, assuming you have one of those skull masks from Army of Two icon_razz.gif

Oh man that'd be awesome.

Doesn't matter, his post about the GH Guitar is still full of ****. He shouldn't go around making absurd comments like that. The only reason he did that was because he thought he was the only one in Australia who has played Rock Band but surprise surprise, I have played it too! And I caught him out! I think I deserve a medal.

I don't see where you 'caught him out' since he never backed down from his claims. This is what we call a difference in opinion. Spend enough time on the internet, and you're bound to run into one of these sooner or later.

Are you even half-way serious anymore Click Here, or is this just straight up trolling now? I already said that we have Rock Band at work (hooray for trips to the US and peer pressure!), and I know for a fact that several members of this forum have played the game already... on top of that I never even approached claiming to be the only one to have played it.

You have some kind of maternal love and protection thing for Guitar Hero III, that much is obvious. I think the guitar on it is inferior, deal with it.

Awesome! Does that mean you have to drum with one hand on Def leppard songs?

Sorry if someone already made this joke btw.

I enjoyed GH3 single player more, but like I said Rock Band really shines with multiplayer. I just don't understand your hate on the Les Paul guitar, your description of it is like trolling. It annoys me because having played putted in more hours than you, I really feel Rock Band's guitar is inferior. And I'm pretty sure your in the minority with your love for it.
