While Sony/ATV Music Publishing - the music publishing company that owns the copyrights to the John Lennon - Paul McCartney penned catalogue - has previously been very tightfisted in the ways that The Beatles music has been licensed, the company's new CEO Martin Bandier, is very keen to change the company's tune by stating that a Guitar Hero title devoted to The Beatles is "something we have talked about and something I'd like to pursue."
The loosening of The Beatles licensing has already started with reality TV hit American Idol finally gaining permission for contestants to sing songs from the vast catalogue of Beatles tracks, but while this is proving a successful venture in the TV stakes, will the proven cash cow status of the Guitar Hero franchise be enough to draw gamers to the classic sounds of The Beatles on their consoles?
